“Look at the new show that’s on that has the word ‘Christian’ in it, and I want you to take the exact name, drop out Christian and put in ‘Muslim.’ And ask yourself is their any network that would have dared to run a show like that and you know the answer is not a one, because anti-Christian bigotry is just fine in the entertainment industry but they have to be very protective of Islam,” Gingrich said, according to ABC News.

Did NBC Blow It With DOWNTON ABBEY?
NBC passed on current cultural favorite ‘Downton Abbey,’ produced by NBCUniversal's Carnival Films studio in London, believing that American audiences wouldn't have the appetite for a very British historical drama set in a country manor in Edwardian England.

Why TV soaps are deserting the saas
Widows and divorcees are increasingly taking centrestage in a new crop of Hindi TV serials where the action is no longer concentrated in the kitchen or around saas-bahu (mother-in-law-daughter-in-law) politics.

  1. So glad NBC passed on Downton Abbey. The 5.4 million viewers the show has gotten at PBS is a good thing, but a commercial broadcast network like NBC probably would have yanked the show from its schedule with a number like that.

Deadline says that Downton Abbey "brought the pubcaster a burst of critical recognition during a time in Washington when government funding of public broadcasting was suddenly in peril. One could even go so far as to say that Downton Abbey helped to save PBS ...."

IMO - Much better to save PBS. NBC probably would have just screwed the whole thing up during this period of turmoil going on there.
