Monday Evening Nielsen Ratings: ALCATRAZ, TERRA NOVA, GOSSIP GIRL, CASTLE, MAID, FLOR, CASA

Fox's much-hyped new drama ALCATRAZ got off to a solid start last night against tough competition, which included a surprisingly strong Betty White birthday tribute on NBC.

ALCATRAZ averaged a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating from 8 to 10 p.m., according to Nielsen, slightly better than the 3.1 TERRA NOVA logged in its premiere in the same Monday slot last fall.

And NBC got good numbers from two White-focused specials, the first BETTY WHITE'S 90 BIRTHDAY: A Tribute to America's Golden Girl, which averaged a 2.7 from 8 to 9:30 p.m., and the second, the sweet and hilarious BETTY WHITE'S OFF THEIR ROCKERS, a sort of PUNK'D for the Geritol set, which nabbed a 2.6 at 9:30.

The specials did even better in total viewers, with 13.9 million watching the birthday show, NBC's best non-Olympic viewership in the slot since 2008. ROCKERS drew 12.2 million, the network's best non-Olympic timeslot performance since September 2009.

Meanwhile, CBS led the night among 18-49s with a 3.8 average overnight rating and a 9 share. Fox was second at 3.3/8, ABC third at 2.4/6, NBC fourth at 2.2/5, Univision fifth at 1.5/4, Telemundo sixth at 0.7/2 and CW seventh at 0.5/1.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback, which includes shows replayed before 3 a.m. the night before. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Forty-three percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

At 8 p.m. Fox was second behind CBS with a 3.3 for ALCATRAZ.  NBC was third with a 2.7 for BETTY, Telemundo sixth with a 0.7 for UNA MAID EN MANHATTAN and CW seventh with a 0.6 for the return of GOSSIP GIRL.

CBS was first again at 9 p.m. while Fox remained second with a 3.3 for more ALCATRAZ.  NBC was third with a 2.7 for BETTY (2.9) and ROCKERS (2.6), Telemundo sixth with a 0.6 for FLOR SALVAJE and CW seventh with a 0.3 for a repeat of HART OF DIXIE.

At 10 p.m. Telemundo was fifth with a 0.8 for LA CASA DE AL LADO.

CBS and NBC tied for first for the night among households, each with a 6.7 average overnight rating and a 10 share. Fox was third at 5.8/8, ABC fourth at 5.3/8, Univision fifth at 1.7/3, Telemundo sixth at 0.9/1 and CW seventh at 0.7/1.
