BREAKING NEWS: ALL MY CHILDREN & ONE LIFE TO LIVE Still Being Shopped For More "Life"?

Okay, soap fans, here we go again!  Is the "suspension" of Prospect Park's involvement with ONE LIFE  TO LIVE and ALL MY CHILDREN really permanent? Or is this just a temporary roadblock?  According to this article in today's Variety, hope is not lost.

Prospect Park, the production company that licensed digital rights to the soaps from ABC, has continued to hold meetings with other parties exploring options for keeping them going online, according to sources familiar with discussions.

While the discussions were characterized as preliminary, one of the options Prospect Park is said to be considering is bringing in an overseas firm to turn the shows into a co-production. That may or may not allow the shows to circumvent the unions, which couldn't come to terms with Prospect Park on compensation for talent on both sides of the camera.

Even though Prospect Park signaled they were no longer pursuing the soaps, they still retain the digital rights that ABC licensed to them that last for a full year after those shows end on ABC. That gives the firm the ability to exercise those rights up until September 2012 for "AMC" and January 2013 for "OTL."

What do you think?  Is this another stall tactic to appease (and torture) soap fans? Or is there really still interest in these beloved shows?  Read the full article and let us know what you think in the comments section below.   - Damon L. Jacobs

  1. I was thinking that that the suspension was not permanent. ABC was stalling and decided not to provide studio space. Maybe it will be on when GH leaves in Aug 2012. LIFE is too HOT to ignore.

  3. As a OLTL fan (33 yrs), and a web designer, I had an idea to help share the show, and promote a new model that would work with online shows. Instead of commercials for denture cream and funeral costs thrown at us, we should select our sponsors (Perhaps I say I like Hoover, All Free and Clear, Ann Taylor Loft and Estee Lauder). Like a real life MyFace. Access Llanview would be the website, but a homemakers all in 1 coupon/sponsor place. Anyone think this could work?

  5. "Circumvent the union" is a nice way of saying "violating the union protection of American workers." I do NOT support this. Actors, writers, people in pre and post production deserve union protection and representation.

I have been an "All My Children" fan since the first week it aired ...
The characters became like very good friends and neighbors ; some like family.
I remember actually shedding tears when a longtime character would die in real life and even in character.
When they actually cancelled the series and had the last day; I was totally unhinged ... and have NOT watched ANY ABC programming since.
Hopefully; Prospect Park or whoever can bring tour beloved AMC back to us ... I'd prefer for a network like BRAVO etc to pick it up ; BUT putting it online would work a good second place ...

  8. Sorry, but I'll have to see the multicolored unicorns fly out of the fax machine before I believe in them this time. PPs credibility is shot to hell. And quite frankly, I call shenanigans and bullshit on their cry about union costs. Even if they are able to trim a substantial amount from their budget through that sort of thing, it's still going to require MONEY and FUNDING. And that was what they didn't have. 10 million and 80 million doesn't make a lot o' difference when you have 0 million to start with.

(sorry, I'm having a Dorian Lord moment.)

  9. I think they need to give up (for now) on the idea of the 60 minute soap 52 weeks a year. they should follow the production and financing model that has made "Degrassi" successful. If they can make a success of this, then they can work on expanding the length and the quantity of the episodes.

  10. How many actors are going to want to be paid less than union wages? How would that effect their standing with the union.
More smoke and bs to take the heat off Disney.

  16. I'll believe it when I see it! Why would they try to get out hopes up once again only to let us down again? ABC/Disney and Brian Frons are responsible for this. I now watch The Young & the Restless and refuse to watch The Spew or The Revoltion!

  17. I'm still boycotting ABC/Disney. Not watching anything except my soaps. I miss AMC and am already dreading the ending of OLTL. And yes GH will be going. They have a show coming next year with Katie Couric. They can't move LIVE W/Kelly . The Doctors and the View have good ratings. (I hate The View)they shove their opinions down our throats but the ratings are good. Then comes the news, the Chew, next the Revolution. They have to get rid of GH to make time for Katie's daytime show.

  19. Katie Courics new show isn't a done deal and if either the Chew or Revolution doesn't perform in the markets then there will be those 2 slots but The Chew was not doing well but I hear it's doing better now.

  20. I feel so lost without my daily dose of AMC and I hope more than anything that both shows will be brought back within a few months, but I'm not quite ready to believe that they actually will. If they can't commit to an hour a day, 52 weeks a year, how about going on hiatus for a few weeks a year like primetime shows do?
