OPINION: 90210 Hits It Out Of The Park As Escort Annie Finally Turns Her First Trick To Pay For Dixon's Rehab!

This week's 90210 was the best episode they've had all season!  Extraneous stories were minimized or not included at all and some stories that have been slowly chugging uphill all season finally came to a head and will hopefully move full steam ahead from here.

Take Annie (Shenae Grimes) and Dixon (Tristan Wilds).  The Wilsons are definitely not in Kansas anymore...  Annie is trying to help Dixon with his drug habit, but the only way she knows how to raise the money he needs for rehab is to have sex with Patrick (Chris McKenna), who is no longer her boyfriend after she caught him in the arms of another escort in Las Vegas.

Annie has been an escort all season and this week she finally turns a trick for cash.  My heart broke for her crying in bed after Patrick left her with the check.  Finally, something Shenae Grimes can sink her teeth into!

Dixon tells Annie he cares more about Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes) than he cares for her.  Adrianna too confesses she has feelings for Dixon, but later she decides that Dixon can't judge who he really cares about since he's on drugs at the moment.  I'm really into the Dixon and Adrianna pairing, so I was pretty bummed that Adrianna was dismissive of Dixon's feelings, but I'm hopeful we will get to see more of them together soon.

The gay political story is really going well.  This week Marissa (Brandy Tell-Me-This-Is-Her-Last-Episode Norwood) wins the election over Teddy's uncle and admits to Silver (Jessica Stroup) that she leaked the video of Teddy (Trevor Donovan) marrying Shane (Ryan Rottman).  She tells Silver that she is going to do a lot of good and even though Teddy is upset now, she will help him (meaning as a poor, downtrodden gay man) and he will eventually be better off.  Basically Marissa thinks the ends justifies the means and Silver is disillusioned by politics.

Teddy initially thinks Shane is behind leaking the video and this reignites their old political conflict.  "Your cause wasn't my cause" Teddy tells Shane.  It's rare that you see any political debate among gay characters on TV, usually all gay characters lean to the Left.  I applaud the political diversity 90210 has given us this season and even more so, I applaud the fact that they let a Left leaning Shane and a Right leaning Teddy fall for one another.  Hey, Herman Cane's wife is a Democrat, love and politics don't always align perfectly!

Liam (Matt Lanter) endures more shenanigans in the world of modeling.  This week was a bit more bearable because Liam at least reconnected with Teddy.  Liam and Teddy are great together as friends and I wish the show had played their friendship more frequently.  However, it really seems now like Liam is supposed to be in a comedic story that doesn't connect with the tone of the rest of the show.  It feels like every week I come up with a new theory as to what exactly they are trying to do with Liam but I still can't put my finger on it.  At least this week's installment of Liam's Adventures in the Modeling Trade wasn't boring.

Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord), however, was bored this week.  She wanted Ivy (Gillian Zinser) and Raj (Manish Dayal) to hang out with her, but they told her to take a hike.  She doesn't bother to ask how Raj's cancer treatment went (Come on, Naomi!), but we learn at the end of the episode that Raj is cancer free!  I would be super psyched about this because I love the character of Raj, but I know that Manish Dayal is not doing any press for 90210, so I'm assuming that Raj will be exiting anyway, even if not via a coffin in the ground.  They are already setting the stage for a Raj/Ivy rift with Ivy going to New Guinea with her hot photography teacher Nick (Sean Wing) and Raj applying to Johns Hopkins.  Looks like Ivy and Raj will have to die as a couple in order for Raj to live as a character.  I love Ivy and Raj and I think Dayal is a great addition to the cast, but dang it 90210, you keep finding hot charismatic actors to steal my favorite ladies away from the men I think I want them with!  You did it with Naomi (I loved Max, but like Naomi, I can't resist Austin) and now with Ivy being thrust in between Raj and Nick.  Wait, that's not what I meant.  I may need a moment.

I did not miss the Sharazi Grand Theft Auto story even one tiny bit this week.  This week's episode was focused, fresh, and fun.  Please let this be a sign of what's to come!
