On this date in...

1957: On THE EDGE OF NIGHT, Mary begged Clayton to tell her Billy's location.

1966: On THE EDGE OF NIGHT, Rick Oliver was shot to death by Laura Hillyer.

1977: GUIDING LIGHT aired its final 30 minute episode.

1986: NBC canceled SEARCH FOR TOMORROW. "SEARCH FOR TOMORROW came to us from CBS after 31 years, but the audience didn't come with it," Brian Frons, vice president for daytime programming at NBC, said. "We, therefore, had to treat the show as a new one, not one with a long history."

2000: Polish soap opera M JAK MILOSCO, revolving around the multiple generations of the Mostowiak family, premiered. The show has run 11 seasons to date.

2004: On THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL, Phoebe and Steffy sang at Taylor's funeral.

2004: PIERWSZA MILOSC Pierwsza miłość premiered in Poland and remains in production.

2005: Nicole Forester took over the role of Cassie on GUIDING LIGHT. She last aired exactly three years later on November 4, 2008.

  1. Love all the soap trivia you run in this column. Weird to know that on the same day that GL aired its final 30 minute episode that GH also aired its final 45 minute episode.

    But question. I believe GH and OLTL both expanded to an hour at the same time. So, if GH aired its final 45 minute episode on this date, wouldn't OLTL have also aired its final 45 minute episode on the same date.
