In February, ANACOSTIA garnered nine nominations in the Indie Soap Awards. The show ended up winning two awards — Anderson, for outstanding lead actor, and Pasha Diallo, who plays the madam, for best breakthrough performance.
Anderson wiped tears during his acceptance speech as he described how as a child he was taunted by other children because of his pronounced stutter. He spent a lot of time by himself , he said, and would fill the void with characters from short stories he wrote in a notebook.

Daytime Ratings: All Soaps Up in Women 18-49 Demo (Oct. 24-28, 2011)
The five remaining daytime soap operas had increases in female viewers ages 18-49 last week. THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL and GENERAL HOSPITAL also went up in Total Viewers. DAYS OF OUR LIVES remains in last place in both categories.
Beth Ehlers to Speak At Free Women’s Health Forum On November 5
Five time Emmy Award nominated actress Beth Ehlers will moderate a free Women’s Health Forum set for Saturday, November 5 at Essex County College’s main Newark campus, 303 University Avenue. The forum, presented by Saint Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Smith Hall, 2nd level.
