Daytime Ratings: DAYS Up 7 % In Total Viewers, Y&R #1 in Viewers, Demos, THE CHEW Bit It

CBS's THE PRICE IS RIGHT was Daytime's #1 program in viewers while THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS was #1 among women 18-49 and women 25-54, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Oct. 2.

THE PRICE IS RIGHT led daytime with 4.66 million viewers while THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS placed first in Women 25-54 averaging 1.8/11 and Women 18-49 averaging 1.4/09.

This data above is from a CBS press release. Meanwhile, NBC has sent out a release praising the bump in the rebooted DAYS OF OUR LIVES (see below).

For the week of September 26-30, DAYS OF OUR LIVES (1.0 rating, 7 share among women 18-49, 0.7/4 among women 18-34) tied for #5 among network daytime series in the women 18-49 demographic and tied for #1 in the valuable women 18-34 race. Versus the same week last year, DAYS is up 7 percent in total viewers (2.6 million vs. 2.4 million).

In a week that marked the return of some fan-favorite characters, DAYS matched its highest women 18-49 rating in 15 weeks (since the week of June 13-17) and tied its highest women 18-34 rating in nearly eight months (since the week of January 31-February 4).

Season to date, DAYS OF OUR LIVES is tied for #5 in the women 18-49 category and tied for #4 in the women 18-34 demo.

Ratings reflect “live plus same day” data from Nielsen Media Research unless otherwise noted. Season-to-date figures are averages of “live plus seven day” data except for the two most recent weeks, which are “live plus same day.”

DAYS gained 260,000 viewers over the week before and came withing 2,000 of tying ONE LIFE TO LIVE in the W18-49 demo. And now ABC has joined the fun with their release (we can't remember the last time all three networks put out daytime ratings press releases in the same week).

* ABC ranked as Daytime's No. 1 network for the 5th week in a row in Women 18-49 (1.0 rating/655,000 - tie) and for the 11th week running in Women 25-54 (1.3 rating/821,000 - tie).

* During its premiere week, ABC Daytime's new lifestyle program THE CHEW overshadowed CBS' THE TALK by 50% in Women 18-34 (169,000 vs. 113,000), by 17% in Women 18-49 (480,000 vs. 410,000) and by 18% in Women 25-54 (609,000 vs. 515,000).

* "General Hospital" posted a 2-month high in Women 18-49 (746,000) and Women 25-54 (934,000) - since week of 8/15/11.

* In Women 18-49, GENERAL HOSPITAL (No. 2 -- 1.2 rating/746,000), THE VIEW (No. 3T - 1.1 rating/723,000) and ONE LIFE TO LIVE (No. 3T - 1.1 rating/673,000) placed among the week's Top 3 Daytime programs.

So ALL MY CHILDREN in its final week on TV (which actually had a little promotion by the mainstream press, if not ABC) had 689,000 Women 18-49 viewers and THE CHEW debuted to 480,000? Normally a network compares the new show to the show it replaced in the timeslot from a year before (% improvement), but not this time.

What do you make of these ratings?

  1. Another reason for the bump for the Days audience is those of us who previously tuned in to All My Children during that same time-slot. If I can't watch AMC, I'll just tune into another soap. The Chew is nothing more than a re-tread of information that has been sliced, diced, chopped and served to us in a hundred different ways already! yawn!

  2. Do you guys know anywhere online that one could regularly find ratings for all network daytime programs? I can easily find them for soaps, but I think it's more important than ever to see how other shows and genres stack up since many of them have replaced soaps.

  3. Check out my blog! It's a OLTL blog, but I talk about Days episodes too. They are getting good. Sign up as a follower and subscribe. I would love for you all to leave feedback on the posts. Anxious to hear what you all think of the episodes =)

  4. All Weeney Sweeney and Frontal Lobatomy succeeded in doing is killing ABC daytime....oh and raising the ratings of soaps on NBC and CBS! Since this is basically Disney, I can only imagine the Queen shouting, "Off with their heads!" Heck, we ABC soap viewers were saying that back in April, telling them what a huge mistake it was!

  5. The only reason for the bump is because nobody is going to watch the chew its a stupid show and the only reason ratings for days is up which amazes me cause their story lines are just patheic is because amc isnt on thats the only reason and soon enough frons should be let go cause abc is failing miserable

  7. What's left of the soaps ratings are up because the fans are sick and tired of being treated like we are no bodies. I'll watch any soap instead of the junk on ABC. I watch OLTL until it's gone. GH, DOOL, Y&R, B&B. I am faithful. That's more than I can say for ABC. They deserve what they get. No Viewers.
