"In the first quarter of 2012 we will launch online streaming," Yates announced. "I would say AS THE WORLD TURNS first, then looking at GUIDING LIGHT later in the year."
SoapClassics.com is the industry leader in bringing old format television programs back to loyal audiences using the latest information technology. In fact, remember the all-too-short-lived Classic Soap Channel that P&G once had on AOL? "Yes, we did all the encoding," Yates confirmed. "We were the technical facility for that.,"
Exactly how many episodes will be available, and when, will depend mostly on the audience. As long as there is interest, SoapClassics will continue to release episodes.
"The group of fans may not be large enough to keep networks interested, but yet there's still plenty of fans interested in this product both as home video and online, and interested in keeping it preserved and available for future generations."
This is AMAZING news. I'm really excited about this for both ATWT and GL.
ReplyDeleteSo excited to see ATWT and GL back online, even if it's classic episodes. :D
ReplyDeleteis it going to be every episode ever? or just the ones that are available before the shows stopped "wiping" their episodes.
ReplyDeleteRoger--We Love You--Yes! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is freakin awesome, like a one, two punch of great news for the soap opera genre and the fans.
ReplyDeleteIf I could have GL from 1971-1996, to see all of Roger, Lujack, and Nick in crystal-clear digital quality instead of grainy bootleg video, I'd be in seventh heaven! :)
ReplyDeleteI love you Roger, way to go!!! I'm ordering today the DVD and to have my soaps back is the most awesomeness soapy feeling I have had since both ATWT & GL was canceled. This has made my morning, just woke got my coffee, it's 5:30 AM and i can go to work with big ole smile....my co-workers will think I got laid last night!!! Roger I know fans always rant and rave about soaps when there is a problem but we need to do a signing TO Rant & Rave and send a big wet kisses and a thank you to Mark. I personally would like send him email to thank him letting him know this is so appreciated by this fan so how can we email or send a thank you.
ReplyDeleteI will definetely support this!
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what we have been asking for! I'm very excited to be able to buy DVD sets but that will only be enhanced by being able to view much online., some I likely missed in my non-VCR days. This is incredible news. Thanks to everyone involved!
ReplyDeleteRoger are you friends with Nelson Branco? The reason asking I'm friends with FB page (not now I unfriend myself) he's telling people NOT TO BUY THE DVD!! I'm confused on why a soap blogger and gossip columnist would do that and tell people not to purchase the dvd supporting the effort? But he wants everyone to pay $1.99 + tax to hear his podcast...sorry I find that offensive and just confusing to understand. He mention he wants streaming from netflix but that is what they are doing by creating soapsclassics.com..Correct or am I missing something, please correct me if wrong. Maybe he's jealous of professionalism and he didn't get the interview or scoop. I was just wondering.
ReplyDeleteharlee, all I'll say is you're much better off ignoring that type of negativity. It just breeds more negativity and that's the last thing this world needs. What SoapClassics.com is doing is absolutely amazing. This is the exact right company to be doing it too. I will explain more over time. I have no idea what the motives are behind whatever was said but I refuse to even waste a second thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteClassic soaps on DVD! Streaming online! The sky's the limit for this. I'm actually working on a post right now about all the positives happening for daytime soaps. This is the message we'll continue to spread here.
Thank you Roger, this is so positive and makes me so extremely happy, you and Damon need to do a special podcast about this if possibly and if you could get Mark for WLSTV interview would be SOAPY Awesomeness...keep up the good work and I know we fans don't realize how much effort you put into this site and love for the genre this fan is SO THANKFUL for indivduals like yourself and your hard work. I just want my soaps back to watch regardless new or old...I feel there is a market for this...from radio to TV & next generation TV to the web. Bless you!!!
ReplyDeleteThis could be absolutely thrilling news, and a great experience for us devoted soap fans...depending on what episodes they begin streaming. If we can get the truly classic Douglas Marland episodes, for example, that would be awesome. If we could see vintage Hughes family drama from the late 1970s, I'd be in heaven. But I fear all we'll get is the last few years of ATWT, when it was crippled by dreadful writing, irrelevant newbie characters, and Powers That Be who were both incompetent and ignorant of the show's history, and what the fans wanted to see. If we get episodes from the 1970s, '80s, and even early '90s, woohoo! If we get reruns of Janet, no thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool!!!! I have been waiting for this to happen ever since they took my Guiding light off the air..Maybe all the phone calls and letters that we have done finally worked..I can't wait...
ReplyDeleteI have never watched these soaps, but if you stream these from the first episode, I AM IN! And thank you for memorializing this wonderful genre. I've watched AMC ever since I was in high school (41 years ago), and I love this genre.
ReplyDeleteRoger..pls, pls, pls ask them to label the eps by airdate, holiday eps.
ReplyDeleteIt has to be better than the AOL Soaps channel. That wasn't done very well.
I esp want to see the Christmas Ep when Phillip finds out Jackie died. So many of Phillip's storylines over the years was like someone was writing about my life. It gave me great comfort to know that others had gone through the same things and survived.
Soaps stopped being topical. I'd love to see a new soap pop up and be historical or futuristic. Love to see the Greeks, the Romans and see some mythology play out.
Fabulous news - am buying the DVDs this AM, but can't wait to see ATWT and GL online. I'll bet there's a larger audience than is anticipated - many will leap out of the woodworks to see their favorite shows again. Thanks for your part.
ReplyDeleteSo many memories, so little time. As a fan since 1977 I would have to say classic scenes with the late Chris Bernau (Alan) and Michael Zaslow (Roger) would be great. And the scenes where Phillip (Grant Aleksander) learns Justin (Tom O'Rourke) is his father. Charita Bauer, Quint and Nola, The Laurel Falls Gang, I could go on all day. There is not one day that I don't miss the show and value the friends that it has brought into my life.
ReplyDeleteThis is so freakin' awesome! I can't believe it. I thought P&G had given up on their soap history completely. Yay!!
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if they streamed by year, and then took the top 20 streamed episodes and put those in the next DVD collection - so the top 20 hits were being decided by those viewing, not necessarily an exec, who thinks they know what viewers want to see
ReplyDeleteRoger I thought this was on target for ATWT.
ReplyDeleteNancy Hughes' prayer...My grandma & mom loved ATWT and because of of that and every Thanksgiving and (it's coming soon) we would say the same prayer every year at Thanksgiving that Nancy would say on ATWT and it was because of matriarchs of my family's love for this soap we still say this prayer at Thanksgiving even though they aren't with us but now it's a family tradition, this is the pray Nancy Hughes always said:
"Oh God, when I have food help me to remember the hungry
When I have work help me to remember the jobless
When I have a home help me to remember those who have no home at all
When I am without pain help me to remember those who suffer
And remembering to help me destroy my complatency
To stir my compassion and be concerned enough to help by word and deed those who cry out for what we take for granted. Amen"
I will be buying this set ! I would really enjoy seeing The Doctors as well..maybe that is a possibility for the future !
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be able to see GL for the years 1994 - 2002 as I missed those years. Really excited about this.
ReplyDeleteWhat about ANOTHER WORLD???
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to watch these soaps all over again. Im sure there is much I have forgotten or skimmed thru when I started taping with my vcr. I'm excited.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Another World is EXACTLY what I was thinking! I miss my Jake and Paulina and Lorna and Carl and...
ReplyDeleteI desperately want to see the As the World Turns Neal Alcott storyline that ran from December 1992 until her character was killed off on June 4, 1993 and the Guiding Light India von Halkein storyline that ran from fall 1985 until spring 1987 and 1998-1999.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite soap opera is "Texas". I was so excited to see episodes posted on AOL. I thought after 30 years of waiting and hoping I would finally get to see episode #439 through #617 when it was "Texas: The New Generation". Please Mr. Yates, look into streaming "Texas" asap. If there is anything I can do to help, just ask.
ReplyDeleteSOoooooo excited !!! THANK YOU !!!!! Now, how does it work with Direct TV ??? Do you know?
ReplyDeleteI think more people would buy the dvds (hardback) rather than watching it on the computer. Beginning with the very first episode through the very last show aired. I think more mone would be made throughout the years if they were in episodes and not in certain areas of interest.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the word on ANOTHER WORLD? When can fans expect to see our beloved show return? We've waited so long and lost it so many times already! We are still patiently waiting for it's return! But this is great news so far!
ReplyDeleteThis would be AMAZING!!!!! I'll take Guiding Light any way I can get it.
