OPINION: Mysteries Build, a RINGER Is Exposed; Sarah Michelle Gellar Handles Ioan Gruffudd, Nestor Carbonel, Justin Bruening & more

RINGER is by far one of my favorite new shows this fall. I haven’t written about it yet, because it kind of scares me. It’s complex. It’s about one twin pretending to be another. I’m going to try to write about last night’s episode now, because it’s too good to keep to myself! If you watch the show, you’ll understand my summary, if you don’t, try to follow along and tune in to the show for goodness sake so you can see what all the fuss is about! The show isn’t hard to follow when you are watching it; my disclaimer is only to cover my own butt if this summary and review get too convoluted.

Last night began when Bridget (Sarah Michelle Gellar who I have adored since SWAN’S CROSSING) has a nightmare that Andrew (Ioan Gruffudd) found her bag and her ID at the bus station. Since Bridget has been masquerading as her twin sister Siobhan, who she believes is dead but we know is living in Paris, the nightmare terrifies her. She goes to the bus station and collects the bag. Of course, Agent Machado (delicious king of the guy-liner himself, Nestor Carbonell) has a camera set up at the bus station, but he mistakenly thinks Siobhan found out from Bridget where she stashed the bag and went to pick it up for her. See, Machado thinks Siobhan is harboring Bridget as a fugitive and lying to him about it; he doesn’t know that Siobhan is gone and Bridget has assumed her identity.

Andrew and Bridget go out to the Hamptons and Andrew wants to make Siobhan's birthday her best birthday ever. We have learned that Andrew and Siobhan’s marriage was in bad shape when Siobhan faked her death and Bridget took over her life. Her marriage has improved by leaps and bounds without her there! Andrew has Gemma (Tara Summers) and Henry (Kristoffer Polaha) surprise Siobhan at the Hamptons.

Agent Machado approaches Gemma to question her. He shows her Bridget's picture who Gemma naturally thinks is Siobhan. Agent Machado tells her that it isn't Siobhan, it's her twin, Bridget Kelly. Gemma goes straight to Bridget who of course she thinks is Siobhan and asks her why she never told her about her sister. Bridget has to really channel Siobhan to explain to Gemma why she cut her twin out of her life. Gemma promises not to tell Andrew. We don’t know the full story behind Siobhan and Bridget’s original falling out, we know it had to do with Bridget’s addiction issues, but there is definitely more to the story that I’m anxious to learn about. I thought it was a powerful scene to see Gellar as Bridget pretending to be Siobhan explaining to Siobhan’s best friend how Bridget betrayed her. Yeah, it’s deep.

Bridget recalls the last birthday she spent with Siobhan, six years ago. Siobhan gave her the necklace they bought as girls and traded off every year on their birthday, telling Bridget she never wants it back.

In the present, Henry wants to have sex with Siobhan while their spouses sleep upstairs. Bridget had previously learned that Henry and Siobhan were lovers and that Siobhan was carrying his child, but Bridget as Siobhan has refused to continue the affair. Bridget turns him down flat. He tells her it's as if she forgot about the whole last year. Flashback to a year ago, Siobhan is making love to Henry at the beach house on her birthday. She's thrilled that Andrew was called back into the city on business. (Maybe Siobhan is working with Andrew's business partner, Olivia? Just a theory.) Bridget sent Siobhan their necklace last year on their birthday.

Later, Bridget burns the contents of her bag on the beach saving only a letter from Siobhan.

In Paris, Siobhan tells Tyler (Justin Bruening) her story without really telling him anything. She does tell him it's her birthday. He thinks she is ‘Cora Farrell’ and he is blinded by an attraction to her.

Bridget doesn't know that Siobhan's been a vegetarian for three years. She freaks out Gemma and Andrew by eating meat. She says she's been craving meat since being pregnant. Nice save, Bridg! She retrieves the necklace from the envelope she saved from Siobhan, which also contained a letter inviting her to visit Siobhan back in New York.

Henry confronts Siobhan about falling out of love with him and back into love with Andrew. He says they both know the baby she's carrying is theirs. Bridget as Siobhan begs him to stay patient and believe that everything will work out… And Gemma's at the door overhearing everything!

During the beautiful birthday dinner on the beach that Andrew has arranged for Siobhan, Gemma is distracted and distraught. Ultimately she stands and runs off. Henry considers chasing down his wife, but Bridget says Gemma is more likely to listen to her, so she goes instead.

Back in Paris, Tyler ends up paying for Siobhan/Cora’s hotel on his company’s account. Siobhan steals a file from Tyler's case. It's a file on Andrew! She makes a call to say "this is gonna be easier than we thought," but who on earth is she conspiring with??

Bridget comes face to face with Agent Machado at the beach house. He confronts "Siobhan" with a recording of the distress call she made from the boat when she woke up to find Siobhan gone. Bridget lies her way out of it, but when she walks away, Agent Machado sees her cell phone and the recent calls she’s made to Malcolm, who is Bridget’s AA sponsor.

Bridget finds Gemma who confronts her with the affair. When Gemma threatens to tell Andrew, Bridget is backed into a corner and she tells Gemma that she is not Siobhan, but that she is in fact Bridget!

Did you follow that? Sorry if my summary is confusing! I swear the show is written and acted very well and even with all the twists and mysteries the show is not confusing. The cliffhanger was incredible. Now that Gemma knows the truth, what will she do? Will she expose Bridget? There’s sure to be more compelling drama coming our way next week on RINGER!
