Michael Learned To Temporarily Fill In For Jeanne Cooper On THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS

Emmy Award winner Michael Learned will temporarily fill in for Jeanne Cooper as Katherine Chancellor or CBS' top-rated daytime drama, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, starting on November 10 according to EW.com.

Cooper, who has played the role of Katherine Chancellor for 38 years, is taking a short leave of absence from the series for medical reasons. She has received the Daytime Emmy Award and eight additional nominations for the role, as well as the Emmy Lifetime Achieve Award.

Learned is a four-time Emmy Award winner, having earned three awards for her role on hit series THE WALTONS and one for the series NURSE. Learned has previously appeared on the daytime dramas GENERAL HOSPITAL, ONE LIFE TO LIVE, and ALL MY CHILDREN.

Meanwhile, "Southern Comforts," starring Michael Learned & Granville Van Dusen opened Friday, Oct 21st in at The Falcon Theatre in Burbank, CA with an enthusiastic response from the audience that included Lee Meriwether, Bonnie Franklin, Robin Gammel and Richard Frankel

Written by Kathleen Clark and directed by Jules Aaron, Southern Comforts is the romantic comedy hit from Off-Broadway that follows the enchanting romance between New Jersey widower Gus (Van Dusen) and Southern widow Amanda (Learned). While waiting out a thunderstorm, their opposite natures collide to create a sweet and intoxicating love story with perceptive humor and unpredictable tribulation, proving that it's never too late to find the love of your life.

Learned will be pulling double duty during the run of Southern Comforts, as she begins filming of Y&R this week.

Learned is brilliant but there's only one Katherine Chancellor. Let's hope Cooper makes a quick return to the role.

  2. The whole show is greatly changed by the absence of Jeanne Cooper. I don't mean any disrespect for Michael Learned, but no one could possibly fill in the role of Catherine Chancellor. I've watched ever since I retired, and before that I watched frequently with my own mother who was a fan almost from the beginning. I was so happy to read Ms. Cooper's comments to the effect that she will return in December. Love and best wishes are coming your way, Ms. Cooper, from North of the 49th Parallel! God bless
