SURVEY RESULTS: Almost 1000 Viewers Speak Out on ALL MY CHILDREN's Last Episode--Favorite Quote, J.R.'s Target & more
Did you see today's CNN/Opinion Research poll on the Republican presidential primary? Well, We Love Soaps is proud to say that we had more people respond to our survey on the final episode of ALL MY CHILDREN!
With almost 1000 audience members recording their opinions, maybe we could give the Nielsen ratings a run for their money? One thing is for sure: our survey offered a write-in space, so the results are definitely more "colorful."
We asked the audience three questions. For the first question, there is, in fact, a correct answer. However, (almost) no one knows what it is, yet! So we'll have to wait until January to see how accurate the "crowd" was at "sourcing" the shooter's (J.R.'s?) victim(s)!
The write-in section was overflowing with ideas about who was shot. Some were insightful, some were macabre, and some were rather emotional:
"Gun went off due to J.R. being drunk & unsteady. No one hit."
"Ryan or, if not, no one, because it should have ended peacefully."
"I think it will depend on who doesn't sign with Prospect Park."
"Bobby, as he finally came down the stairs."
"Doesn't really matter - hopefully one of the newbies."
"JR was not the shooter"
"The viewers."
"Perhaps an ABC executive?"
Some respondents went so far as to actually name an executive. Moving right along!
The big confrontation between Walt Willey's Jackson Montgomery and Susan Lucci's Erica Kane clearly made an impression. A couple of write-in quotes do deserve honorable mention: when Erica repeats her "Pine Valley isn't exactly the corner of Hollywood and Vine" quip after all these years, and of course, the children's "All My Children" recitation for the school play.
Finally, we asked about audience satisfaction. As we expected, it seems the viewers either liked it or hated it, with little room for indifference.
From dozens and dozens of written addenda on the topic of their satisfaction, the audience demonstrated that whether they were happy with the show's finale or not, they are all deeply invested in ALL MY CHILDREN as a phenomenon. We leave you with a selection of the respondents' most notable and/or representative commentary:
"Needed some screaming after the shot, and a big 'TO BE CONTINUED... ONLINE' shown on the screen."
"Where was the Chandler family photo, like the other families had earlier in the week? Why didn't JR come around and feel bad for everything he has done? Why didn't he reunite with his family? Why end the show on such a potentially violent and sad note? I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT THE LAST EPISODE WAS SO AWFUL!"
"I would of liked more memories of past performers. Mona Kane, Phobe Tyler Wallingford, Edmond & Maria, Trevor Dillon and Harold the Dog."
"Very clever cliff-hanger; can't wait to start watching at AMC's new home with Prospect Park."
"SHAME ON ABC FOR SHOWING THE CHEW ADVERTISEMENT AS THE ENDING CREDITS ROLLED! WHAT AN EMBARRASSMENT FOR THEIR NETWORK! THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES! NO RESPECT, CLASS OR COUTH AT ALL! Erica Kane could teach them a lesson or two!"
"How can it end without letting the viewers know the identity of the other person David saved? You would have thought that for the last episode, it would have been a happy ending..."
"Make them laugh, make them cry, make them wait. Agnes Nixon's quoted words and guiding principal right (& write) to the end. I thought it was brilliant. Any long term fan of ALL MY CHILDREN could see what we have been missing over the past few weeks, and the last episode did not disappoint. The characters behaved like they should, most notably Erica. I thought her being torn between a movie and Jack was classic and the REAL Erica. It will be a LONG autumn. Can't wait to see what happens and would be SO sad if there wasn't the online version coming soon."

As a longtime AMC viewer, I thought the final episode was outstanding! Terrific cliffhanger, classic soap writing.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if their saving that last person David saved for the story line in One Life To Live, Victor Lord. I'm sure someone can brilliantly figure out how to do that one.
ReplyDeleteAMC is coming back as an online program in January and I can't wait! Final negotiations are going on with the stars!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tammy!Classic soap, classic Agnes Nixon. It shows hope that while they honored the families and memories, they left us hanging...on till January..then a new beginning!! This 1000 is just a tiny portion of we the fans and supporters, Now guys we have to support them on line by viewing, PP says we all will counted and it is up to us!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete...and Erica wakes up remembering the horrible nightmare she just had about something called chewing, chewers, chawers, spewers ....
ReplyDeleteWhat makes me laugh is how they are rolling the end of the Chew over into the beginning time for OLTL, like that does anything other than annoy soap viewers. It has confirmed what I expected....outside of the show's unhappy status as the replacement for a much loved show....it has nothing to offer
