PREVIEW: ABC's Thursday Night Soaps GREY'S ANATOMY & PRIVATE PRACTICE

GREY'S ANATOMY is back with an all-new episode, "Take the Lead," airing Thursday, September 22 (9:00-10:02 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

The Chief makes a career-changing decision that shocks Seattle Grace Hospital. Cristina and Owen try to find normalcy in their relationship. April continues to struggle in her new role.

Meanwhile, the 5th year residents are given their first solo surgeries, only to find out that even the most routine procedures aren't always easy.

GREY'S ANATOMY stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Patrick Dempsey as Derek Shepherd, Sandra Oh as Cristina Yang, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens, Jr. as Richard Webber, Sara Ramirez as Callie Torres, Eric Dane as Mark Sloan, Chyler Leigh as Lexie Grey, Kevin McKidd as Owen Hunt, Jessica Capshaw as Arizona Robbins, Kim Raver as Teddy Altman, Jesse Williams as Jackson Avery and Sarah Drew as April Kepner.

PRIVATE PRACTICE returns for its fifth season premiere, "God Laughs," airing Thursday, September 22 (10:02-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Sam, Cooper, Charlotte and Amelia team up to save the life of their friend Pete after he suffers a heart attack, while Violet, who was in the middle of leaving Pete and LA, is nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Addison's desire to have a baby leads her to see Jake Reilly, her recent mystery man, in a most surprising place, and Sheldon tries to help Amelia in her battle with alcohol.

PRIVATE PRACTICE stars Kate Walsh as Dr. Addison Forbes Montgomery, Tim Daly as Dr. Pete Wilder, Benjamin Bratt as Jake Reilly, KaDee Strickland as Dr. Charlotte King, Paul Adelstein as Dr. Cooper Freedman, Brian Benben as Dr. Sheldon Wallace and Caterina Scorsone as Dr. Amelia Shepherd, with Taye Diggs as Dr. Sam Bennett and Amy Brenneman as Dr. Violet Turner.
