REVIEW: Hillary B. Smith Scores Touchdown with FUMBLING THRU THE PIECES

Web Series: FUMBLING THRU THE PIECES

For fans of...: ONE LIFE TO LIVE; CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM

What it is: Post-yuppie, new-agey women and the blue collar gentleman who grounds them (a bit) try to figure out Life and each other.

What's good: A professional, mature look and feel evocative of an HBO style pseudo-documentary sitcom. A very experienced cast--and we can tell they're genuinely enjoying the gig. Plus, get your (Indie Soap Award winner) Hillary B. Smith fix!

What's great: The story line is twisty and quick; the characters are funny and lovable. These are the neighbors we wish we had... so open and kind, and so fascinating and full of secrets... but are also glad we don't. At its best, FUMBLING showcases the particular strengths of the web series as a medium for quirky, soapy dramedies.

What could be better: At first we found FUMBLING to be a bit of a tease. Without the (admittedly rockin') theme music and credits, early episodes are about three minutes long--not enough time for the characters to fully develop before they "go away." Episodes 8-12 are about twice as long, and each installment now seems to hit the serial sweet spot: we're satisfied, yet we can't wait for more.

Addictive like...: Psychic readings

Grade: A (and the last five episodes moves the grade to "A" for the entire season)

Review based on: Season 1, Episodes 8-12

  1. If you haven't seen this series, it is definitely worth a watch. It's highly entertaining, and I'm shipping Jesse/Shara. :) Just because.
