  2. Seems a bit incongruous to jump all the way back to 2005 for one episode!

And I thought we were getting a full week of ATWT this week - 5 episodes, but today is pre-empted again by stupid tennis. Do we just lose a whole episode?

  3. Mo - as far as I know the tennis was playing at 4 ET/3 CT today, and wasn't preempting ATWT.

  4. Just told my 79 year old mom today that As The World Turns was ending Sept 17th. She is heartbroken and doesn't understand why! I agree. We have so many reality shows on tv I am sick of them. They could have ended the B&B since ATWT has senority and bump it up an half hour to see what happens before they ended it. If it didn't work they could bring back B&B. It seems to me CBS doesn't want to try with their old tried and true shows and would rather just add new iffy ones. Shows are like a marriage their are going to be slow periods! Well good luck CBS. No wonder why you are in last place! I now only offically have one daytime soap which is Y&R which at times I have to shut off bc it's soo sick for example NICKI and alcohol again what next from the past her drug problem ICK. I love Billy and Victoria together. Her and JD made me want to puke!!! I will miss you ATWT. I grew up on you with my blind grandma and disabled mom! You will be much missed. Myabe I will get lucky and they will bring you back!!!

  6. John - you're right: today's episode of ATWT aired after all, in spite of the local onscreen cable guide listing it as being pre-empted.

  7. Why is CBS ending ATWT? All those years of faithful viewers are now going to get garbage. Poof it is gone! They had a great story line going. CBS did the same thing with the Guiding Light. More unreal REALITY CRAP. I watched them both when I was home, otherwise I would DVR them. This is so sad. Shame on you CBS, ATWT replaced by “The Talk” just what we need more Talking Heads!

  9. ATWT was preempted in California. Normally aires at 1pm (PT) and tennis was just starting at that time. So my mom heard that it would be on at like 2am or something, anyone know!?

  10. Why is it that we can have all these talk shows and all these dumb and boring reality shows yet we cannot keep our favorite soaps like As The World Turns and Guiding Light which I and I am sure millions of others have watched through the last 30 years or more.
Maybe itis time to start boycotting CBS

  11. A crapfest afternoon, thought I never do this but I'm defecting to ABC, but I will still watch Y&R and B&B, but I don't know how much longer. And I'll also watch OLTL and GH. There will be a cold day in hell before I watch show that is being replaced. That is my new line up.

  12. and the reason they couldn't play it out for a few more weeks until THE TALK was ready was.....

    .....what, exactly?

    /fail

  13. @april - I think the fact that your 79 year old mother is watching ATWT is precisely the reason why CBS is canceling it and going the talk show route.

Younger viewers equals better advertising, which means more money for CBS.

  14. CBS cancelled ATWT to make way for Moonves' wifey-poo's (Julie Chen)talk show. Millions of fans and viewers watched ATWT everyday. I;m sure most will BOYCOTT the new talk show, which looks pretty boring anyhow (Lea Rimini? Sharon Osbourne-puleeeze) Sorry, not interested. BTW, ATWT's ratings were as high as GH's, OLTL, Days, etc.

  16. I watched this show as a little girl with my grandmother. I am now grown with 20 year old grandchildren. I understand the economics of ratings and fascination with youth. Having said that, ATWT was a stable. The fictious Oakdale residents came into our living rooms 5 days a yeay for decades. Whether you loved or were bored with an episode, they became the people you grew up with. Tho they were actors with scripts;they were real people. You watched them age like a next door neighbor. There was a relatability. Then one day they were just gone without notice. Like waking up and finding your friendly neighbors had moved away in the night. People who watched them from pre-teen-teen, between college clases, between bottle feedings and soccer games understandibility feel sad. The reality shows that are airing may be more relevant to todays folks..but do not fool yourself;they are no more real than soaps!
