Sadly there are only nine episodes of AS THE WORLD TURNS left to air after today. It looks like next week (a three day ATWT week due to pre-emptions on Monday and Friday) will focus on the death of character. Watch the preview below to see what happens and let us know what you think about this development in the comments section.
This is heartbreaking. I'll cry all next week!
ReplyDeletehow horrible y did they have 2 end it this way? i know its drama but come on... i also will b crying all nxt week hell i'm crying now ...this is so sad it really is like saying goodbye 2 ur friends luv u guys--God Bless...
ReplyDeleteIt looks sad but I don't understand why Reid has to die. He's the best new character in years.
ReplyDeletei hope chris goutman never works again. how many weeks of barbara with a clown doll, the mere existance of janet, and then he kills reid? i know soaps are dying, but couldn't we have a happy irish wake for atwt? you know what they say, blank him and the horse he rode in on. a 35 year viewer, and this is what i have to look forward to? wasn't he, along with side kick jean passanente responsible for a gorilla at a wedding on the another world final episode? remember, bad things happen in bay city.
ReplyDeleteIf there were any hope of resurrecting ATWT it is basically done with by killing off Reid. And here is why. - as everybody knows I strongly believe in the history and integrity of the show - I believe that they made mistakes long ago by putting the veteran actors on the 'back-burner'. They could have used Lisa and Lucinda much more often, rather than the silly Faith, Liberty and Gabriel (I know this entices the younger fans but get realistic). I liked Parker's relationship with Carly and Jack - and that made it worthwhile. For three years I found the storyline with Luke and Noah boring. When Luke first 'came out' and there was the whole trauma with Damian and Lily, it was interesting. But Noah's blindness and the back and forth with Luke's paralysis, made me wish for stronger character build-up. I think Van Hansis is a rising star, but even he didn't start to 'shine' until Eric Sheiffer Stevens appeared. There was instant chemistry. I look forward to seeing Reid every day. The writers have given him witty, gritty and personable dialogue which can't help but make you like his character, the SAME way that Larry Bryggman's portrayal of John Dixon had kept us enthralled for decades, until they decided he was no longer relevant - BOY were they wrong - the same way that they were wrong by not using Colleen Zenk Pinter very much until the 'Barbara/Henry' storyline emerged. And just look at how brilliantly Kathryn Hays portrayed Kim yesterday as a mother in PAIN. Although Noelle Beck is a strong actress, she cannot even come close to portraying Lily/Rose, the way that Martha Byrne did. The ONLY saving grace (other than Barbara/Henry) in the past couple of years was the Brad/Katie, Paul/Emily and of course the Carly/Jack/Craig storylines. Michael Park and Maura West basically carried the show for the past 10 years the same way that Martha Byrne and Jon Hensley carried it in the 90's. Turning Meg into a 'looney-tunes' and the Mick/James fiasco was just wrong. Anthony Hererra could have been used so much better (he has returned from the dead so many times before, the writers could have and should have made his return more plausible and realistic). The Audrey story was stupid and Lynn Herring was not used to her potential - they just made her look ridiculous.I don't even want to talk about misusing Terri Garber as Iris and the whole contrived and silly kidnapping plot in order to extort money.
ReplyDeleteBut back to Reid - turning the last two weeks into a 'TRAIN WRECK' and killing off the MOST likable character in years. If ATWT had any chance of coming back to life, it would have been with REID as one of the central characters. Someone suggested that John Dixon could have been Reid's father. Can you just imagine if these TWO actors were together on a daily basis - throw in Craig, Carly, Jack and Lucinda and there would be FIREWORKS. Can you just imagine how POWERFUL and WONDERFUL ATWT would be if Kim and Tom could show their epertise in handling family crises, instead of Liberty and Faith whining about whether to choose Gabriel or Parker as boyfriends?. Margo is the police chief and she never puts the right people in jail - wouldn't it be good if she had had a storyline involving some real bad guys (like Ellen Dolan's superb portrayal of a rape victim) instead of Ralphie and the mobsters. I also don't want to get started on the Janet/Dusty/Jack storyline. Janet was so interesting when she started as a single mother who loved to cook Italian dishes and who was looking for love - Dusty WOULD have and COULD have been the right guy for her, if they hadn't portrayed her, in the last few months, as such a complete 'ditz'. Katie should have been left alone with her sweet baby and should have just dated Chris (who, I agree, is as 'wishy-washy' as they come). But wouldn't it have been spectacular if she had once again been finally paired with Simon (Paul Leyde). They had magic together. And finally Don Hastings (Dr. Bob) is so much like my own father, that my heart breaks for the loss of the incomparable Nancy (Helen Wagner). I admire his strength, humility and heart (not only as the character, but as the PERSON). I wish all the fine actors the very best in the future. I am so sad that mistakes have been made that might have led to the demise of ATWT. The BIGGEST mistake and one that will impact negatively if there were a chance to have the show resurrected is the bad decision to kill off Reid.
ReplyDeleteHOW CAN TPTB END THE SHOW LIKE THIS? IF CHRIS GOUTMAN OR JEAN PASSANENTE REALLY REALLY CARED ABOUT THE FANS THIS WOULB NEVER BE I REMEMBER GOUTMAN AND IS THEN 2 B WIFE WHEN HE WAS AN ACTOR ON SEARCH 2 2MORROW HE WASNT ALL THAT THEN NOW HE STINKS! I WAS HOPING THAT MAYBE A CABLE NETWORK WOULD HAVE PICKED UP ATWT I WILL MISS ALL THE ACTORS AND THIER CHARACTERS 4--35+ YEARS THAY HAVE BEEN INVITED INTO MY HOME AND HEART I WISH THEM WELL AND HOPE 2-C THEM AGAIN SOMETIME
ReplyDeleteI have watched ATWT for 20 years, and I have been hanging on every word since the countdown until the end of this amazing Soap Opera! My ANGER toward you CBS for that alone is insurmountable! However, I was absolutely captivated by Reid Oliver when he came on the scene! I thought he was hilarious, arrogant, and quite the spitfire! It blew me away to find out he was gay, and that Luke and Reid would fall in love! The sparks that flew was amazing, and what an amazing storyline! I hadn't really watched alot of Luke and Noah .. but Reid and Luke were like a gay CarJack .. and as much as I've loved all of the cast of ATWT .. CarJack were the most explosive couple that I have ever seen, until LuRe! This is the first gay couple that I have really watched, finding myself glued to them as I did with Carly & Jack! I never in the years since Carly & Jack exploded onto the scene did I ever think that I would see a gay couple do the same .. and you idiots at CBS have the two most dynamic couples ever .. and you would cancel the show, let alone tragically kill off Reid! I was in shock and horror watching IN TOTAL DISBELIEF!
ReplyDeleteI cried, and cried! I just cannot believe that you would end LuRe like this, let alone disgrace As The World Turns with such a horriffic storyline ending!
I am still grieving Reid's death, and I am totally heartbroken to think that ATWT only has days left to survive! I will never forgive you CBS .. and I will never watch another show on CBS EVER AGAIN! I hope you go down FAST & HARD! .. like a TRAINWRECK!
