Red Carpet Interview: Carolyn Hennesy At Daytime Emmys

Carolyn Hennesy was nominated this year for Best Supporting Actress in the 37th Annual Daytime Emmys.  How does she stay so confident, powerful, and empowered? Read below to find out.

We Love Soaps: I love that your character is a woman who takes action, she knows what she wants, she knows how to get it.  How much of that is about you?
Carolyn Hennesy: All of it.

We Love Soaps: Is that who you are?
Carolyn Hennesy: You bet.

We Love Soaps: Have you always been like that, or have you had to learn how to be confident in yourself?
Carolyn Hennesy: I think we all do.  There are those horrible angst ridden teenage years.  Then you slowly get out of that.  Listen, this is a very tough business.  If I hadn’t learned to have some resilience and let things sluff off, I would be dead.  Because this is a business that says “No.”  And I’ve said, “I don’t care how much you say no, I’m going to say yes.”

We Love Soaps: How did you learn to do that?  How did you learn not to take it personally when you hear “no” and keep fighting?
Carolyn Hennesy: Believe me, that’s the trick.  If I could bottle that, if I could bottle, “Don’t take anything personally.”  I think you need people in your corner as a support system who already know it to keep telling you.  So anyone out there—don’t take it personally!  If you want to do it, don’t take no for an answer.  Unless it’s illegal, immoral, or fattening.
