Bloomberg Pays Tribute To ATWT At Made in NY Awards

Monday night at Gracie Mansion, New York City Mayor Bloomberg and Commissioner Katherine Oliver of the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment presented the fifth annual "Made in NY" Awards, created to honor people and organizations that have contributed to the city's entertainment industry.

Bloomberg started the evening with humorous tributes to LAW & ORDER and AS THE WORLD TURNS, two long-running shows that are ending production this year. He praised the shows' contribution to the city's media-related revenue stream.

"I know I speak for everyone here when I say that we thank Dick Wolf for all he's done for New York City," Bloomberg said. Hizzoner got chuckles when he claimed that he was "not really a devotee" of "ATWT" and proceeded to rattle off a dozen involved plot points from the venerable drama.

Honorees included:
* Veteran actress Angela Lansbury
* HSI Productions, which specializes in music videos and commercials
* Lee Daniels, Academy Award nominee for his direction of Precious: Based on the Novel Push By Sapphire (his award was accepted by Precious screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher)
* SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, with writer and performer Seth Meyers accepting
* Brooklyn Workforce Innovations, a organization that trains lower-income individuals for careers in film and TV production
* WFT Productions, a digital agency that won the 2009 NYC BigApps grand prize for its Wayfinder NYC app, which provides users with directions to the closest subway stops.
