COMMENTS FROM THE PANEL:
Patrick Erwin: Hearst is a great leading man (though recognized as a supporting actor). He can play anything the writers throw at him, and even managed to make GH's Ric a likable character after some heinous deeds.

Roger Newcomb: I will admit that when I was watching Faith and Scott on DAYS OF OUR LIVES 20 years ago I didn't suspect Hearst would convince me someday that he was one of the "all time greats". But boy has he spent the past 20 years doing just that. He has held his own and shined against some of the best daytime has to offer and been able to convincingly play both good and bad characters and everything in between. I'm partial to Alan-Michael out of all his characters but his work as Ric on GH was golden.

  1. I've always thought that Rick Hearst is one of the most talented actors ever to appear on soaps. I'm surprised that he didn't rank even higher.

  2. Rick has the ability to take heinous storylines and really make something out of them. I think on GH, it was frustrating for the actors playing Sonny and Jason see "Ric" doing simply awful things the audience was supposed to loathe him for (and then side with Sonny and/or Jason), but instead have Rick Hearst develop a following despite his character's misdeeds and see that "Ric" make Sonny and Jason look even more ridiculous, petty and "douchier" than ever. *That's why he's not on GH anymore*.

His current stint on B&B shows that he gives 100% to thankless roles no matter where he is.

  3. I would've ranked him higher also! He has had some big emotional moments when it's just so obvious how good he is but honestly I realized how good he *really* was when a replacement took over for him for a couple of days. His story wasn't big at that time, he would just walk in and talk a bit... one would think a replacement would do just as well... but the difference between the replacement and RH was like night and day. Even those little scenes, RH was able to give his character life and make it seem like a real person with real thoughts, opinions, and feeling... even if all the scene required from him was to ask for a coffee refill. Superb. He really is.
