I miss a certain type of scandalous women from soap's past. Once upon a time every rich family had a daughter who was smart, classy, snobby but never bitchy. Lenore Curtin Delany (AW)and Anne Tyler Martin (AMC) gathered their power from their wits, not just clever quips. They were paired with righteous men who made them see the errors of the superficial lives lead by their mothers.
ReplyDeleteToday, nobody wants to write about class differences in daytime. Thus, a woman has two means of power in the storyline either she is sexy or bitchy (sometimes both but then you are a lead character).
When was the last time Brooke Logan or Ashley Abbott were in the lab? These woman were ground breaking scientists developing wrinkle free fabrics, and age reducing cremes. Now the only thing they produce are babies.
I agree with you. Damon says a lot on our podcast and web series how much words can hurt. I loved the young vixens like Vicky Hudson on ANOTHER WORLD. They used their brains and manipulated situations and got what they wanted.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like in the 80s more people became rich and these small towns suddenly were full of high rises and international airports. I have always liked the haves versus the have nots type of stories.
