Vanishing VENICE?

According to VENICE Hope Royaltey, the VENICE teaser video which debuted last night has been removed because it was flagged as "Spam." The video was has been a phenomenal success on YouTube, and apparently was the #4 most popular Entertainment video before it was classified as spam. Fortunately, VENICE fans can still see it here on WLS.

What do you think?  Was this spamming a misunderstanding, or an act of aggression against our beautiful beach heroines?

Meanwhile, the VENICE theme song, "Venice Beach," has been played over 4000 times on Myspace today, and sales are "through the roof" on iTunes, Amazon and Bandbox per singer Jen Foster.

  1. My guess is that YouTube didn't even bother checking to see if it was spam or not before they zapped it. Hopefully the originally video can be restored because it had all kinds of honors from today and nearly 20,000 views and 700 ratings (5 star ratings).

  2. Read some of the Terms of use violations on Youtube. This could be the problem:

use of the Website or its related services (such as the Embeddable Player), for the primary purpose of gaining advertising or subscription revenue.

  4. From a positive perspective I would hope it was just a mistake that will be fixed very soon. From a negative perspective sure was a high traffic time to have pulled the spam/tos card (it's been up since 9pm est yesterday). Unfortunately when anyone is trying to put something good together there are haters.

But let's concentrate on the wonderful support this series has & will grow even more after seeing this vid.

  5. Doubtful, especially since they aren't taking subs yet.

Much more likely that some sad trolls who want to cause trouble for the Venice fandom flagged it, and Youtube policy after reaching a certain number of flags is to delete first, ask questions later. It's an ongoing problem.

  6. I have a problem with ria507's explanation, only because it didn't seem they were using it to gain advertising or build revenue subscriptions. At this point there are no subscriptions. If they are seeking out advertisers, it's certainly not in a public way.

I'd hate to think this is a deliberate act. Who would want to hurt "Venice?"

  7. i can't believe YT does not check these flagging claims before removing videos. hope team venice will manage to bring it back.

and already there are haters... which is good sign, right? it means Venice The Series is a total success.

  8. Grrr. It's a pain in the arse. And I sincerely hope they can rectify that in a hurry. In the meantime, Hope Royaltey just announced on Twitter that she's working on putting it up on Veoh and will be available shortly.

    Love to all Venice peeps!

  9. I can't imagine anyone wanting to hurt Venice. And the TOS seems weak at best at this point.

this makes no sense. I hope that youtube will have a good explanation and can restore it exactly like it was.

  10. Thanks to you guys at WLS for putting it back up via DailyMotion. I'm already addicted to the song and the crazy beautiful visuals (which, yes, includes the actors).

  11. This had to be a deliberate reporting. Imaginary Bitches has run promos, previews, episodes, vlogs and a PSA against Prop 8 and has never been pulled for spamming. Not to mention, they had an episode titled "Porn Star Priest".

And, no, this didn't violate the terms of service as Damon points out, no where on their YouTube channel did they attempt to gain any ad or sub revenue.

Hopefully this gets straightened out quickly. I've seen much worse on YouTube that should be pulled.

  14. The 'auto removal after x number of flags' theory is credible.
I know that Blogger does exactly the same thing, I've had blog-friends that have had to petition to Google to get their blogs back after being reported by jerks.
I just saw on Facebook that the video was restored on FB, here's hoping that YT follows suit pronto.

  15. Spam to You Tube is a broad term. I wouldn't be surpirsed if it was more the amount of views to ip addresses over the amount of time. That jump in a short time is going to cause someone at You Tube to notice, and make decisions.

  16. i don't know Amy people view spam all the time and those videos don't get taken down for that reason. in fact i believe there is a firefox addon that would help you commit view fraud called 'Reload Every' something like that. the flagging theory makes more sense. when you flag something you have to give them a reason and spam is an option.

  17. If the promo was watched by people pressing F5 that counts as a 'spam view' and that is artifically inflating a clips popularity and YT's automatic spam checker will pull the clip without checking any details. Also, YT often has problems processing comments on a clip over 300, especially when all down around the same time so that would also have hit the automatic spam checker.

Venice wouldn't be hit by a commercial violation as the Terms say it's fine to upload promos for anything that's commercial so there is no conflict here.

Unfortunately YT doesn't usually respond to complaints about spam violations so the only way to really get this fixed and free up the Venice channel is to talk to someone at Google and try and get this fixed from the inside.

I just hope somone knows someone at Google and can get this fixed otherwise it's highly likely to happen again, especially as Venice is always going to be so popular.

  18. All I can say is great to have it back up. People just want to watch if and people want to see show like Venice. That's why we keep watching the trailer. Thanks WLS for getting the promo up here when it was down over there. You guys rock! (natjaku)
