New Competitor to Cable TV and Satellite Debuts in L.A. Today
A new TV service debuts in Los Angeles today, eventually hoping to become an alternative to programming distributed by cable and satellite providers. It's called Sezmi, and snares programming through over-the-air signals (including cable channels that it gets by leasing spectrum from local broadcasters) and the Internet. Sezmi offers a store that sells and rents movies and TV shows from a library of thousands of titles (powered in part by Roxio’s Cinemanow). You also get access to Internet video such as YouTube and podcasts."

Edward Woodward dies at 79
Edward Woodward, who starred as a former secret service agent THE EQUALIZER television series, and in the movies Breaker Morant and The Wicker Man, died on Monday. He was 79.
His career spanned almost seven decades. He started out as a Shakespearean stage actor, later moving into film and more than 2,000 parts in television productions ranging from the British soap opera EASTENDERS to the title role in CALLAN, which claimed to be television's answer to James Bond on the big screen.
Are GLEE's Kurt + UGLY BETTY's Justin Bad for Gay Youth? Absolutely Not
Is Glee actually bad for gay representation on television? That's not a question being asked by GLAAD (which loves the show) but Newsweek's Ramin Setoodeh, the magazine's go-to for all things gay. The article isn't just misinformed, its premise is miserable.
Characters like Glee's Kurt, Entourage's Lloyd, and Ugly Betty's Marc and Justin all lean effeminate, some more than others. This, Setoodeh all but concludes, is "hurting" the image of gay Americans because it's pushing a stereotype. He's right — but only in the "pushing a stereotype" department. Which, let's be sure, isn't always a terrible thing. And is sometimes worthwhile.
WWE, USA Extend Deal Through 2014
World Wrestling Entertainment and USA Network have extended their deal to keep WWE MONDAY NIGHT RAW on the cable channel through Fall, 2014.

NBC.com Launches VOIP Service
NBC.com has launched a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) application it is billing as a way to for fans of its programming to communicate via computer. The application is called Communicator, which the company describes as an "entertainment, social media, and computer-to-computer voice calling application." The application is free and will feature unlimited calls and texting.

ReplyDeleteLove the Ugly Betty comment, I think Justin is the most nuanced gay character in the history of television. Hilda breaks my heart every week, when she told him he was perfect it was the ultimate gay wish fulfillment.
