TVG: To clarify, how did Sony approach you to negotiate? I would assume if their biggest star was being asked to take an early pay cut mid-contract that they’d at least take you out to lunch and discuss it face-to-face. Well, that’s how I’d deal with it.
EB: Well, that’s not what happened. After 30 years of loyal service, I was sent a cold email to my agent in very dry terms: “End of 20-week cycle. This is the pay cut, accept it because there is no negotiation.”
TVG: Wow.
EB: That’s how it went down.
TVG: What happened next? How did you finally tell Maria that you were quitting? That couldn’t have gone over well.
EB: There was no contact with the higher-ups. It was all through email.

Meanwhile, We Love Soaps took to the streets of Manhattan today to find out if the public is familiar with Mr. Braeden. Look for that report on an upcoming "Soaps on the Street" feature.
And if you missed Joanna Parson on our podcast this week, she sings that the Braeden situation can easily be resolved, "All It Takes Is Cash."
Thanks for sharing Nelson's dkiss-butt interview with Eric Braeden. It does sound like Sony was cold, negotiating by e-mail, no in-person meetings.
ReplyDeleteThere wasn't a section of Mr. Braeden's hiney that Nelson's lips missed.
ReplyDeleteMeh I'm kinda over this farewell tour already. And it wouldn't kill the show to take a break from TGVN every once in a while.
ReplyDeleteI am with you Defhed, I enjoy Eric Braeden's work a lot, but hey he has to realise the genre is in a bad state and sacrifices need to be made. A little break from Victor Newman would be good, let other actors shine for a while.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, this may also upset people, but I am also way over the Crystal Chappell Tour as well. Yes, she is talented but seriously I wish she would let her fine acting do the talking for while.
