Soaps publicist are TERRIBLE!! What about all of the great photos of Leslie Ann Downe and Brandon Beemer photo shoots?
ReplyDeleteYou're right about about this!
It's a wonder that OLTL with the most African-Americans on a soap aren't receiving more attention in African-American media, print and web.
AMC brought back Angie and Jesse. Where was the publicity?
I'd comment on Y&R but the show has decided to send its African-American cast to the corn field. This used to be the premiere soap for African-American soap characters. Now, it's just terrible: adultery and incest. Just gross. Only Lily is regularly, but she's been defanged and turned into a weepy willow, dependent on her lying husband.
I agree SF78! It baffles me as to why publicists would not take advantage of internet and print media to make their clients more visible. Especially, as Roger pointed out, more visibility = more ratings.
ReplyDeleteI usually get annoyed by product placement as well, but I absolutely hate it when it starts sounding like a commercial. But it will keep the shows on the air, I'm fine with it.
ReplyDeleteThe last product placement that annoyed me was on Dutch soap Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden. It was around the release of The Sims 3 video game. All of a sudden some of the characters were playing the Sims 3 on a laptop with a Sims logo on it.
But although they were playing the game and the game logo was onscreen in a close-up, the characters didn't start a conversation about how great the game was or something. So I'm happy at least about that.
The next product placement on this show is probably Disneyland Paris. They just did a location shoot there. :-)
The soaps need to reach out to former fans and target niche areas where there are potential new fans.
ReplyDeleteOh Mikey! I had prepared a surprise for you in case AMC won best show. I'll post it on your FB page later today when I get home from work.
