Crystal Chappell on CNNi's CONNECT THE WORLD

"Emmy award-winning actress and tech-savvy businesswoman Crystal Chappell" appeared on CONNECT THE WORLD on CNN International on Wednesday afternoon.

Chappell answered questions submitted on the CONNECT THE WORLD web site and from host Becky Anderson.

Anderson told Chappell her supporters had crashed their website earlier in the day with the biggest reponse they have ever had on their show.

On the VENICE front, Chappell teased that there would be break-ups, connections, and physical intimacy between two women on the show. She also said a tragic thing happens at the end with a very loved character. The show also featured a sneak peak still of VENICE.

  2. did she talk at all about when it is going to actually be on--seems like a lot of press about an idea not an actual product...

  3. They are filming the show at the end of October. I haven't heard an exact premiere date but I don't think it would be too terribly long after that.

  4. CC has said in other interviews that the premiere date should be around the end of November.

  6. When was the last time that a US soap star was featured on CNNi? My guess is NEVER.

  7. Columbus, I don't know. I only discovered today I have this channel! :)

  8. thanks-I was trying to find out the date because she seems to be a press tour that would imply the show is going to start to air soon, and I don't want to miss it.

Its cool to see her do this, but I'm a bit confused why it's always presented like they are the first ones ever to do a web, interactive series. There's a lot of daytime actors involved in projects already--I'd love to see the Venice ladies give props to those who paved the way.

  9. Did it seem like the interviewer was smitten herself lol. Loved the promo pic of Venice Jessica's character looked totally different from Natalia. I love that not only is this giving Venice publicity but daytime soaps also. Like Columbus said when was the last time a soap actress was on CNN?

  10. Defeat Prop 8 which daytime actors and what projects? I ask because I'd love to watch them anything to support daytime and their actors :)

  11. Well there is Imaginary Bitches, Kevin Schmidt (Y&R) has the Poor Paul Series (which has won awards) Lauralee Bell has Family Dinner--just off the top of my head.

I'd love to see the woman behind Venice acknowledge that history there--every interview seems to me like everyone thinks they are the first people to do a web series, especially with fan interaction. There is a past, I'd love to see them realize that.

  12. Maybe its because its the first lesbian series on the web I dunno they should bring up all the other actors that have done outside projects trying to reach out to fans. I do watch Imaginary Bitches which I adore but I didnt know about the others thanks :)

  13. Immagine my surprise, here I was watching tv in cold Sweden and Crystal Chappell from my Guiding Light was on my tv!!

I think Venice is gonna be a huge hit and I can't wait to see it.

A death in the season finale? Darn, now I have to worry about Daniel Cosgrove getting killed off.

  14. Katie I do reccomend Poor Paul--Kevin and his friends are awesome in it--and they've been really interacting with fans for a while.
That's what just struck me listening to the CNNi interview--this isn't the first time something like this has come about on the web--and they also kind of made it seem like it's being filmed right now, which is where I got confused on the airings.

Anyone but me is a great lesbian web series too!

I forgot to thank for the clip--we don't get that channel here!

I know it's not the CNNi, but weren't Eden Riegel and Tamara Braun interviewed and featured on the real CNN?

  15. How good is this for the Days of Our Lives promotional department. CC is a walking billboard for them right now.

  16. Yay for Venice and the gang!

Defeat Prop 8, Crystal and her team have said they've researched other projects--I believe Crystal even mentioned this in the interview. They have not given names, but I really don't think it's necessary. The major draw of Venice comes from Crystal's passion for the subject, for a love story--and the Otalia fanbase has definitely added to the appeal. I'm not sure how big BAM was, but I'm guessing it didn't have the worldwide appeal as Otalia. I could be wrong. Also, given that Otalia is part of Guiding Light and that this is the final week of Guiding Light--a push for Venice makes sense. I'm sure this is only part of Phase 1 in terms of getting Venice a little more mainstream.

  17. I'd be curious to see any of the interviews that mention the other projects--and I guess it's just me, but these series of interviews I have read seem like they are pushing themselves as the first people ever to do a web series or want to be a part.

It's interesting to see the fans so passionate about this but not so much about her role on DAYS-is it because of the lesbian character? Is CC playing a lesbian what is drawing people in?

The interviews make it seem as if Venice is filming now and coming soon--sooo much press and push for something that's months away/not even a real product seems like the cart before the horse.

  18. I don't really get that impression from the interviews at all. Web series have been around forever. I just see promotion for THIS web series. Chappell has wise taken several cast members from a 72 year old soap which is leaving the air and doing what many hoped would happen with GL. To me, that IS unique. Many of the soap stars are starring in comedy series as well, not pure soaps. This is being promoted as a soap, which many people shy away from. Another unique element is that Crystal and Jessica, a wildly popular pairing with limited sexual contact on GL, will be featured in a much less controlled environment. There are many things that make VENICE unique in my opinion. Chappell could possibly be nominated for three Daytime Emmys next year because she is invovled in three different shows.

I always try to support the indie soaps and have promoted them all and watched them closely and none have ever created this type of buzz. The CNNi report wisely and correctly pointed that out in a way by talking about the number of followers on Twitter and the fact that fans crashed their server.
