I'm staying! There really was no doubt.
As for the casting call for a new Sam put out by the show, Monaco said she knew about it in advance.
It wasn't even a scare tactic. It's just standard procedure. If my stuff wasn't signed by sometime a.m., then they have to send out a breakdown. I got a call from my boss [Jill Farren Phelps, executive producer] early on in the day saying, 'Don't be alarmed but there's a breakdown going out,' so I knew all about it.
Steve Burton's contract was up, did ABC put out a casting call for Jason Morgan? Didn't his contract negotiations come down to the wire also?
ReplyDeleteAllegedly, ABC has had been called out for sexism in how it treats its female cast. The most notable example was ABC refusing to give Genie Francis the same kind of deal that Tony Geary has that allows him to take an extended yearly holiday.
I've read on other soap blogs that the casting call for Sam McCall was allegedly a scare tactic. If this were true, doesn't that add more fuel to the fire?
As soap viewers, knowing only bits and pieces of facts, we're always forced to speculate about the realities of behind-the-scenes politics. What might seem innocent might be manipulative; or, the opposite may be true.
As adults, we are also aware that a bad things do take place in the work place. Managers bullying employees is part of that reality. Therefore, people are forced to assume the worst.
I hope that Monaco's statements are true.
