I have always been happy with Y&R’s writing. Writing in any venue, whether it’s daytime or prime time, is not going to be 100 per cent every time. And for that matter, I’m not going to be 100 per cent every time, either. In those moments, you have to ramp it up, but for the most part, Y&R’s writing is consistently good each episode. The challenge is to commit when your muse isn’t sitting on your shoulder to inspire you. If you don’t commit, then you’re making a comment on the scene — which is the worst thing you can do as an actor. You have to do the work. I actually love the days when the material challenges you. Those days are fun! “How am I going to do this?” you ask yourself, and then, somehow you manage to.
