News Round-up: Muldoon, Baumann, GH, Oberman

INTERVIEW: Former DAYS and MELROSE star Patrick Muldoon
Muldoon tells DC's Jamey Giddens: "You know, MELROSE PLACE was always better the more outrageous it was, so why not? I would definitely come back from the dead again!"

Three new students join HOLLYOAKS
Three more students are moving into the university halls of residence in Hollyoaks. Lesbian barmaid Charlotte (Amy Yamakazi), already introduced to viewers as Lydia's ex-girlfriend who attracted the attention of Archie Carpenter (Stephen Beard), will move into the student halls and quickly become part of the gang.

Cheeky ladies' man Dave (Elliot James Langridge), who appeared in online spin-off The Morning After The Night Before, will also join the show and looks set to become a firm favourite with female students.

Meanwhile, India (Beth Kingston) will make an impression on the men of Chester. But she will be less popular with the Hollyoaks girls, who will find her spoilt and manipulative and question whether she is cut out for student life.

VIDEO: Life imitates soap as DPD squad car burns
A fairly spectacular visual unfolded on Loop 12 yesterday when a DPD police cruiser with a loaded rifle in the trunk caught fire. Nobody got hurt, but rescue workers had to let the glorious inferno burn itself out as live rounds exploded in the flames.

The prosaic explanation for all this was a faulty catalytic converter. You definitely get a more exciting version of events, though, from this raw footage posted taken by a Channel 8 'copter and posted to our website. In some curious intersection of fate and technology, news and (in one of its humbler forms) entertainment, the flaming cop car video is accompanied by the soundtrack to the soap opera that WFAA was airing at the moment.

About 30 seconds into the video, there's suddenly music - extremely bad music, which some may recognize as the theme tune to GENERAL HOSPITAL.

INTERVIEW: SECRET LIFE's Ken Baumann (Ben)
"I think it does have a positive message. I've told people before I think the show is pretty morally-centered, but I don't think it's heavy-handed. I think there's certainly a somatic message or a moral message that's explored with each episode and with each season but I think those issues are dealt with in very real ways. I know just from personal experience I've spoken to mothers who are teens in the same situation as Amy or guys who are going out with the quote-unquote pregnant girl in high school. Whether or not they were still together with them or were just together with them in school, they said this show resonated with them, so just from objective conversations with people who watch the show I think it really does Deal with things in a very positive way, a very real way, but uplifting, and I think that's done very intentionally."

Upfronts 2009: Impasse, Interrupted
Alison Tarrant, executive VP of integrated sales and marketing at The CW, cites MELROSE PLACE as the most popular new show among marketers for integrations, though she isn’t ready to give away who’s in just yet. “The timing of the marketplace has affected the mid- to low-tier shows,” she says. “With the top-tier shows, there is a limited supply of integrations. Every show will only have one [telco] wireless integration, so you have to be the first one in.”

INTERVIEW: EASTENDERS' Tracy-Ann Oberman (ex-Chrissie)
"I often get people asking me what happened to her. Someone even asked if I'd write a blog from Chrissie's perspective, which I'd love to do. Knowing Chrissie, she'd have probably taken over the prison. She'd have been like Ray Winstone, the Daddy - or the Mummy! - of the prison. I never felt it was finished off and I would have loved to have wrapped it up. She just told Jake [Moon] not to wait for her because she realized she had to do her time. She'd have probably got well in with the Governor. I could imagine them having cosy dinners together. Probably the Jeffrey Archer of soapworld."
