CLASSIC CLIP: The Daisy Awards 1989

One of the most memorable events in soap history occurred in 1989 on ONE LIFE TO LIVE with The Daisy Awards.

Connie Passalacqua (the future and current Marlena De Lacroix) explained at the time:
OLTL's ongoing FRATERNITY ROW soap-within-a-soap story line has been a continuing delight for both viewers and soap insiders. But it was never as much fun as the recent Daisy Awards, which parodied the real-life Daytime Emmys airing on the same day.

For weeks, the show primed us with all the intrigue that goes on behind the scenes in the nomination and winning process. Fighting FRATERNITY ROW's own Megan Gordon (played by Jessica Tuck) for Best Actress honors was Megan's personal nemesis Spring Skye (played by Sharon Schlarth), the best bad actress we've ever seen. Spring arrived at the awards in a hot tube inside a limo, and the fun went on from there.
Check out the opening segment below which was given a shoutout on last night's Daytime Emmy Awards:

Here's the recap for that week on OLTL:

Brenda told Dan and Larry that she can't have another baby. Spring locked Marco and Megan in a meat locker at a steak restaurant, but they were released before the Daisy Awards. Bo talked Audrey into attending the Daisy Awards, and when Audrey won the Best Newcomer Daisy, she walked for the first time since her legs were paralyzed in the car accident. Spring vowed to get revenge after Megan beat her out for the Best Actress Daisy. Sarah admitted to Megan and Viki that she is pregnant and Austin is the baby's father. Viki told Bo that Sarah is pregnant and that she is going have an abortion.

  1. This was one of my all time favorite send ups! Classic OLTL at its best.

  2. I never thought about the fact they have have reused the name Marco, first the legendary Marco Dane and now Marco and Langston - soaps usually don't re-use first names, I doubt we'll see a Silver Abromowitz on AMC

  3. I was just thinking of Silver. That was a great storyline.

  5. The theme was redone for the 17th annual emmy awards opening in 1990. Singers of the song, with different lyrics included Kim Zimmer, Scott Holmes, the guy who played Rafe on One Life to Live, Candice Earley who played Donna on AMC, and the late Perry Stevens who was on Loving. Lastly, Tishina Arnold who was on Ryan's Hope and Loving and has recently been on various sitcoms, such as Everybody loves Chris. I can get the youtube link if someone wants it. It's under 17th daytime emmy opening.
