News Round-up: Manhattanites, Jeanne Cooper, GREEK

Manhattanites on "Stardish Radio"
Manhattanites director Gregori J. Martin and cast members Ilene Kristen, Forbes March and Ilene Kristen were guests on "Stardish Radio" last night to celebrate the DVD release of the film.

Kristen on being cast in the film: "Saying yes is sometimes an exciting thing to do. When Roger [Newcomb] called me and said, 'I know this is last minute,' and I didn't know if my schedule would allow for it, but that little voice inside me said, 'just say yes.' And I'm glad I did."

The strange, wonderful evolution of the soap opera
CBC Flannery Dean writes: "Though often considered an arcane form of entertainment for the vanishing species known as the 'housewife,' the soap opera has always aspired to direct engagement with the outside world. Sure, the pursuit of love and the reward of passion — cue the ubiquitous shot of a log burning hot in a chalet fireplace — are constant themes. But soaps have always made a point of being topical."

INTERVIEW: Y&R's Jeanne Cooper (Katherine)
"Katherine will be involved with a character coming back to Genoa City who has not been on the show. And, through that character all hell will break loose; business wise, relationship wise… you name it, it will happen. It will affect everybody, and it’s not John Abbott! It’s a real human being. (She laughs) It will shock the shoes off of you on how the person comes back, and why!"

INTERVIEW: Y&R's Adrienne Frantz (Amber)
"There’s a 50-year age difference between Jeanne and I, but she’s also one of my best friends. We’ve known each other since I was a kid, so we clicked immediately when I started on Y&R. We pleaded to the powers-that-be that they write more for us because we knew we shared something special. And we have so much fun acting together. Jeanne says she sees her younger self in me, and so does Katherine with Amber. It’s funny — Jeanne forgets about our age gap. The other day, she asked me if I had seen Lena Horne live. She stopped herself before I could answer and said, 'Never mind — I always forget we’re not the same age!'"

Deep Soap: A Marriage Made In Viewing Heaven
Sara Bibel writes: "I loved Kay and Murphy’s wedding on The Young & The Restless. The episode got the details right, from Brock officiating, to Jill interrupting. Her drunken tirade was both hilarious and poignant. Thank God Jess Walton decided to stay with the show. The sweetness of the wedding vows put a smile on my face. I particularly enjoyed all the little character-driven touches."

INTERVIEW: Y&R's Michael Graziadei (Daniel)
Graziadei was a guest on "BuzzWorthy Radio" last night.

HOLLYOAKS' Stuart Manning reveals plot twist
As if HOLLYOAKS' upcoming storyline involving a fire in The Loft isn't enough, actor Stuart Manning has revealed a plot twist that will really shock fans of the Channel 4 soap. The 29-year-old actor says his character Russ Owen finds his girlfriend Nancy Hayton in bed with cross-dressing student Kris Fisher.

He said: "There's the fire in The Loft so Russ runs into his and Nancy's flat which is next door and goes into her room and discovers Kris and Nancy in bed together. That's a bit of a shocker, a real hurter I think because the whole reason why they're in bed together is because Nancy overhears Russ talking to Calvin and something Russ says hits home with Nancy about her being his consolation prize."
