News Round-up: Cady McClain, Less is More, Terrell Tilford

CADY MCCLAIN: Get Ready, Get on Set... GO, GO, GO!!!
"Wow, what a crazy two days! Way out in NJ, we shot- well, it must have been close to 50 scenes, really, I lost count. I really like acting on location, but the AMOUNT we had to get done- good lord.

"Here I am above (picture on link), with our beloved rubber baby, who plays Eliza. Isn’t she adorable? I remember when I was working on AMC we used to draw a little moustache on our rubber babies, and someone once put a 666 on her head. Naughty, naughty! This rubber baby is enjoying a much better fate."

Learning the Lesson of 'Less Is More'
TV Week's Josef Adalian says: "Truth is, there’s simply too much original content on TV these days. The explosion of quality scripted dramas on cable, combined with the Tribble-like multiplication of reality projects, has created an impossibly overcrowded environment for entertainment-seeking consumers."

FAWLTY TOWERS actor says prank call helped career
Actor Andrew Sachs said a controversy over prank calls to him by BBC broadcaster Jonathan Ross and comedian Russell Brand had helped his career even though they had hurt his family.

"I came out of it very well ... my profile's up. Great! They did me good. Thank you very much," the 79-year-old FAWLTY TOWERS actor said in extracts published on the Guardian newspaper's website on Friday.

Sachs is best known for his role as Spanish waiter Manuel in the classic 1970s comedy show which starred John Cleese as the inhospitable hotelier Basil Fawlty. He is about to start a short stint on popular ITV soap opera CORONATION STREET.

HOME AND AWAY star sees positives in lesbian line
Esther Anderson was in the news last month when debate raged about her brief lesbian storyline on TV's HOME AND AWAY.

"I knew there would be a reaction, but I had no idea it would have that kind of weight and there be so much negativity to be honest," she said. "I was really disappointed. But I think the good thing is now it's over, I've had the most amazing feedback. The positive far outweighed all the negative stuff, so that has been wonderful."

Three Canadian TV stations sell for $1
Cable operator Shaw Communications late Thursday offered to buy three local TV stations that gush losses from CTVglobemedia, for a buck apiece. The broadcaster, which previously said the stations would be closed if no buyer was found, said yes.

"We've accepted their offer of $1 per station. Cable is rolling in money and can obviously afford to underwrite the losses," CTVglobemedia president and CEO Ivan Fecan said as he bid Shaw good luck with CKX-TV in Brandon, Manitoba, and stations in Wingham and Windsor, Ontario.

Are viewers looking for family programming?
“Because of the economy and the environment that we all navigate, seeing how another family navigates through situations on TV has appeal because you may learn something — or you may just feel better that it’s not you [going through tough situations],” said TLC president and general manager Eileen O’Neill.
