The Latest Google Trends
GH, Y&R, DAYS, AMC and B&B are consistently the top five rated soap searches on Google for all regions of the world. I'm not convinced that people searching for "general hospital" (as in a real hospital) aren't part of this total (combined with searches for the television show). This may or may not be why GH is #1 almost every time I've ever looked at this metric. If you narrow this down to the United States only, GH and Y&R are in a dead heat with Y&R ahead half the time.
You can see a big blip on the news stories from last Thursday, the day of the Daytime Emmy nominations announcement. This chart is for the past 30 days. If we went back 60 days, there would be a huge blip on the day GL was canceled by CBS.
I also did a search on "Thom Bierdz". The number of searches were inconsequential for the past year until the end of last week when there was a huge uptick (as expected).
On the Yahoo Buzz TV rankings, Y&R is the only soap consistently in the Top 20. DAYS makes the second most appearances. Y&R is #11 today (AMERICAN IDOL is #1).

It's interesting that people still obviously care about DAYS, even with the behind the scenes issues. Although, who knows if they are actually watching the show? :)
ReplyDeleteDAYS has always been more in the mainstream consciousness than a lot of other soaps. I feel the show has improved lately but if there were a few stories that could get some pop culture buzz, DAYS could potentially soar in rankings like this and, hopefully, gain some new viewers as well.
