News Round-up: ITV Trouble, Pickard, DEGRASSI

CORRIE halted as ITV jobs axed
Filming on the CORONATION STREET set will stop tomorrow as staff tune in to a video conference about ITV's financial situation. Job cuts are expected in non-production roles at Granada, as ITV has been affected by the global economic situation and the downturn in advertising revenue (down 30% in the first three months of this year).

There's also speculation that ITV could sell off some of the land it holds in Manchester, including the Quay Street offices and the CORONATION STREET set. An industry insider said, "It is commonly felt that the head office and CORONATION STREET set is no longer fit for modern television." If this happens, production of CORRIE could possibly be moved to the MediaCityUK development in Salford Quays.

SPOTTED: Mickey Rourke and AMC's Denise Vasi (Randi)
"Mickey Rourke hasn’t let fame go to his head. The Wrestler star hung out at 1OAK this weekend with ... the bathroom attendant. According to a fellow reveler, Mickey hugged the employee before leading him in an impromptu dance routine outside the john. But the bathroom boy wasn’t Mickey’s only buddy — the actor was seen wishing ALL MY CHILDREN soap star Denise Vasi a happy birthday before chatting up a sexy brunette at the bar."

Ryan O'Neal pleads guilty to drug charge
Former PEYTON PLACE star Ryan O’Neal pleaded guilty on Friday to possessing methamphetamine and was ordered to complete 18 months of drug counseling. As part of the plea, the 67-year-old actor’s case will be dismissed if he successfully completes the drug diversion program.

Nick Pickard on his return to HOLLYOAKS
Pickard has revealed his soap character Tony Hutchinson faces some tough times when he returns to HOLLYOAKS on March 9. The character was last seen after he had just been acquitted of sleeping with a minor and couldn't wait to leave the village.

Now, less than three months later, he's back, but his return to Chester is soured when he discovers his brother Dom has hired Cindy Cunningham and Mercedes McQueen - with whom he had a one-night stand - to wait tables at Il Gnosh.

Pickard said: "He's not happy at all, obviously because of all the stuff that's gone on with him and Mercedes in the past and he's never been a great admirer of Cindy Cunningham either. However, it's not just that, he's unhappy that they've turned the place into a greasy spoon cafe and when he returns he finds the place crawling with builders eating fry-ups and the place decorated with manky table cloths."
