News Round-up: Senta Moses, CORRIE Stays, Minka

Senta Moses enjoying longer stay at GENERAL HOSPITAL
Moses joined the cast of the ABC soap in early January for what was supposed to be a short guest appearance. But her character - cybergeek/FBI agent Winifred Leeds - caught on, and the writers decided to keep her around.

"I get a kick out of it," Moses said. "This stuff would never happen in real life."

Winifred is far from the usual sexy soap heroine. She wears glasses, and her curly hair is always pulled back into braids. She totes her beloved laptop wherever she goes. Her dialogue, mostly with fellow GENERAL HOSPITAL geek Damian Spinelli, is heavily tempered with tech talk.

"My mom is all over me: 'Are you and Spinelli going to get together?'" Moses said. "I said, 'Mom, I don't know.'"

For now, the plan is to keep Winifred as she is: quirky. Moses, for one, is glad. She gets to work in flannel shirts and comfy boots, far from the skintight clothes and towering heels her co-stars have to wear. She doesn't even mind the geek speak.

"I'm really glad to have a steady gig," Moses said. "I just feel really, really lucky to have this job."

Are you ready to ROCKVILLE?
Set entirely in an indie-rock venue in East Los Angeles, ROCKVILLE, CA, debuting next week, is about the complex parallels between vying for love and getting a hipster band off the ground. Each show features the performance of a different team of shouting songsters, like the oh-so-Swedish Lykke Li , Passion Pit and The Republic Tigers [along with some indie bands from angsty teen dramas past, like Phantom Planet and The Kaiser Chiefs ].

Alexandra Chando , who plays Deb, a young rep that signs bands to a big-name record corporation, says “[the show] is such an innovative idea. [The website] is completely interactive.” Chando is no newbie to the television scene.

FNL's Minka Kelly part of CW's BODY POLITIC
The FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS star has been tapped as the lead of the CW's drama pilot BODY POLITIC. She is joined by an alum from another critically praised but low-rated series, VERONICA MARS' Jason Dohring.

For the FNL fans whose hearts started racing, Kelly's new gig is not an sign that FNL is not coming back. Negotiations between NBC and DirecTV are still going on, and insiders are optimistic that the show will return for a fourth season. But given the fact that Kelly's character on the show, Lyla, graduated from high school this season and is off to college, she is not going to be a regular next season but will return for a multiepisode arc if FNL clinches a fourth-season pickup.

Ashley Jensen officially out at UGLY BETTY
Jensen is leaving Ugly Betty at the end of the season. And she was just cast as a series regular in the CBS comedy pilot ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE.

CORONATION STREET to stay In Manchester
Talks about moving ITV Granada from the current site at Quay Street to Salford Quays dramatically broke down this week. ITV were moving forward with plans to transfer to Trafford Wharfside. But discussions have now been terminated by ITV and the move scrapped following a dramatic reduction in the financial commitment being offered by MediaCity developers Peel.

Jack's new love interest cast in CORRIE
Veteran actress Rita May has joined the cast of CORONATION STREET as Jack Duckworth's new love interest. She is to play pigeon lover Connie Rathbone and will first appear in Weatherfield on April 17 when she returns one of Jack's (Bill Tarmey) pigeons. Jack, however, is concerned what his late wife Vera (Liz Dawn) would think of him entertaining another woman.
