BAFTA TV Award Nominations Announced

EASTENDERS star June Brown - who plays long running character Dot Branning - is the first soap star to be nominated in the Best Actress category in 23 years. She receives her nod for a monologue episode dedicated entirely to her character, shown in January 2008.

Brown is joined in the category by Anna Maxwell Martin for her role in POPPY SHAKESPEARE, Andrea Riseborough who portrayed ex-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in THE LONG WALK TO FINCHLEY and HANCOCK AND JOAN actress Maxine Peake.

ITV soap CORONATION STREET has been snubbed from the Continuing Drama category, with nominations instead going to THE BILL, CASUALTY, EASTENDERS and EMMERDALE.

The awards will be handed out on April 26.
