FLASHBACK: Younger Actress At SOD Awards 1986

The return of Krista Tesreau to GUIDING LIGHT made me think back to the 1986 Soap Opera Digest Awards. The following ladies were nominated for "Outstanding Young Leading Actress on a Daytime Serial" that year:
Ellen Wheeler (Marley/Vicky, ANOTHER WORLD)
Debbi Morgan (Angie, ALL MY CHILDREN)
Kristi Ferrell (Roxie, GUIDING LIGHT)
Krista Tesreau (Mindy, GUIDING LIGHT)
Andrea Evans (Tina, ONE LIFE TO LIVE)
Marcy Walker (Eden, SANTA BARBARA)
Robin Wright (Kelly, SANTA BARBARA)
Tracey E. Bregman (Lauren, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS)
Beth Maitland (Traci, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS)

They are all pretty much still in the business with a couple of exceptions including one missing person. Many of them have remained in the soap world and even their old roles.

Ellen Wheeler won the award that year (along with a Daytime Emmy). She won another Emmy as Cindy on ALL MY CHILDREN before returning to ANOTHER WORLD in the late 90s to play Marley again. She made some appearances as Marley on AS THE WORLD TURNS before moving behind the camera. She now serves as executive producer of GUIDING LIGHT.

Bregman is still going strong on Y&R as Lauren after moving to B&B for a time. Maitland still makes sporadic appearances on Y&R as well. Evans had a somewhat disappointing return to OLTL last year after several years on PASSIONS.

Wright, now Wright Penn, is married to actor Sean Penn and has found quite a bit of success in feature film.

Marcy Walker returned to ALL MY CHILDREN for several years as Liza before disappearing from the acting scene a few years ago.

The one missing link is Kristi Ferrell. No one seems to know where she is. The former Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader and GL's Roxie Shayne had roles in a few small films in the 90s but has pretty much vanished ever since. I loved her during her GL run and have always wanted the show to bring back the character of Roxie. The relationship between Reva and Cassie never compared to Reva and Roxie for me.
