GUIDING LIGHT Emmy winner Crystal Chappell (Olivia) was a guest on "Buzzworthy Radio" this afternoon and had a lot of interesting things to say. The interview broke listener records for the show as fans jammed the phone likes to speak with the actress. You could tell she is as big a fan of "Otalia" as many fans are, including those at the now 733 member (and growing) Big Purple Dreams fan site.
Our intention from the very beginning was not to throw labels out there. It narrows the scope of what we could do. We just wanted to tell a love story.
Chappell said she loved how the show has taken their time with the Olivia and Natalia story. She said she had to learn to trust that fans would be interested in this type of slow buidling storyline.
I knew what was going to happen in January of last year. I wasn't sure how they were going to do it, or if the story was going to get pulled. I think because of the time they took with it and the care, people were allowed to invest in the relationship.

ReplyDeleteCrystal's interview was fantastic. It was great to hear her thoughts on the Otalia storyline and how excited she is about it. That makes me even MORE excited, too. It was also great to hear that GL has been building this story as long as they have. I mean, I knew they had been, but still...that gives me renewed faith that they'll continue that trend, and put a lot of thought into the future of this story. It seems like we Otalia fans have a lot of good stuff in store for us. I can hardly wait!!
there's just something about this woman that makes it so easy to be a total fangirl around her. her generosity with the fans and genuineness with this story make her the perfect person to carry this important storyline. in a lesser actresses hands, i think the subtlety would have been lost and i don't think as many people would be feeling the otalia love.

I watched GL years ago and recently returned because of the Otalia buzz. I've spent weeks on the otalia forum reading and speculating about this storyline. It wasn't until today, this interview that I realized I'm not going to be watching Guiding Light for a few weeks. I'm not going to just watch this storyline play out and then I'll go when it goes. I am loathe to admit it because breaking my soap habit was painful the first time, but I am now a Guiding Light viewer. Crystal has me once again.

I haven't watched a soap opera since college and have been disappointed in prime time television so I am prepared to be a fan of GL. Thanks again to Crystal and Jessica and the writers for making a loving couple that happen to women so riveting.

ReplyDeletei already adored CC beforehand but after this wonderful interview, i've completely fallen in love with Crystal Chappell. it was very refreshing to know how much she believes in the storyline and the promise of Otalia, just as it is made so evident through her brilliant work. She is genius -- a delight to watch. Just knowing what a remarkable human being she is as well, makes treasuring her all the more worthwile. Crystal is the Goddess of Daytime and she proved it yesterday on BuzzWorthy Radio. Delicious, indeed.
