Tune Into GL On Monday, January 19

Next Monday, January 19 is looking like an excellent episode of GUIDING LIGHT to check out as Natalia has a very busy day.

ALMA Award nominee Jessica Leccia has been fantastic lately as Natalia especially in her scenes with Crystal Chappell's Olivia and Jacqueline Tsirkin's Emma. Leccia married Brian Malloy in May 2008 and is expecting her first child in June.

Olivia and Natalia (aka "Otalia") have the kind of mature relationship that is so rare on television these days. They talk about real things, communicate like adults with each other, share the load in raising Emma and generally do things people can relate to. The only comparison I can make is with Eric and Tami Taylor (played by Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton) on FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, who have the most realistic marriage I've ever seen on television.

No matter what happens in the future with these two, Olivia and Natalia need to remain friends. GUIDING LIGHT has struck gold with this pair (actually trio with Emma) who are relatable to the audience in so many ways.

January 19 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in the US so likely some of you are not working that day. Don't miss GUIDING LIGHT.

  1. I just hope GL enters 2009 and goes there with this pairing. These two are so talented and despite some soap watchers thinking it's being over done now a days I would say - it's not done enough.

What a great pair and what a great pairing for GL to explore - and probably gain some mighty loyal fans in the process.

  2. I agree. The pairing of Olivia and Natalia is unique. They bring out the best in each other. Olivia is softer and Natalia has more confidence. And Emma is such a rising star. Wow, I am so glad that GL is providing enough air time for Emma.

If the GL writers want to take this relationship to the next step, then so be it. If the writers want to keep them as friends, then so be it. I see a love story that is deep especially with all of the history between these two women. And yes, two friends can share a special love as well.

I recently started watching GL again this past summer. I was somewhat disappointed at first, but then when the Otalia story line began to develop, I became hooked. GL writers, please keep this momentum. And I hope the attributes the GL writers have provided in this story line can be shared among other story lines.

  3. Olivia and What's Her Name won't make me watch, not even Phillip or Edmund returning will make me tune back in. The only way I'd ever watch this show again is after Wheeler and Kreizman are fired. Same people writing and producing=same train wreck of a show. No matter who they bring back.

  4. Oh I'll be watching. I hope this begins the process of Otalia opening their eyes and figuring out their real feelings. This has been the kind of old fashioned, slow build, supercouple creation we used to see in soaps all thetime; but no longer, writers got lazy.

This has been a beautiful thing to watch and I hope GL sticks with it. It will bring them viewers and accolades.

  5. Exactly everything that was said in this article. To have two people who actually listen to each other, they even argue in a mature and healthy way is refreshing not just for daytime but for television in general. I love watching them and have returned to watching Guiding Light because of them.

  6. Great post! I totally agree. This is the kind of writing for a mature relationship that folks can get hooked on...and I'm hooked! GL has built this pairing (whatever that ultimately means) in that slow, natural way that these serial dramas used to be known for. It's so hard to find that on soaps today.

Here's to hoping GL keeps up the good work. Because they've got a new audience member in me, and I know others are tuning in for this storyline too.

  7. They are a great match - I didn't even really like either character previous to this sl, but now I really enjoy watching both...
