News Round-up

How CORRIE tries to keep STREETS ahead
At almost 50 years old, CORONATION STREET is not the only long-running show that still pulls in the punters. Next year EASTENDERS will celebrate 25 years on screen, and THE ARCHERS will mark 60 years since its pilot. Even HOLLYOAKS will be 15. Surely there can't be that many storylines?

Steve Frost, the controller of continuing drama at ITV and the new executive producer of EMMERDALE, admits it is "extremely hard" to keep soaps fresh. Viewers feel they own the shows, he says. "It is always a constant question of keeping them familiar. That is absolutely key. But they can't be too familiar, as you might as well just watch repeats. They need to have a constant new angle."

TVGC: Live from the Soap Cruise: DAY 3
Emmy winner Jacob Young ordered fans to tape CBS and ABC instead of SOAPnet. “Those ratings don’t count,” he explained. “I don’t care if you tape NBC, but please help save our shows.”

AS THE WORLD TURNS's Dylan Bruce (ex-Chris), Terri Colombino (Katie), Ewa da Cruz (Vienna) and Austin Peck (Brad) got to play some very different roles in the January issue of CBS Watch! magazine: that of U.S. presidents and their first ladies! When the foursome were gathered in New York City on Jan. 16 at the Capital Grille to celebrate the photo shoot.

HOLLYOAKS stripper Melissa Walton went to a lap dance club to research her role — with her father
The 18-year-old actress, who plays Loretta Jones, paid for girls to perform after asking his advice on the best venue.

She said: “Dad was only too happy to help. He didn’t ask for any dances, he just wanted to make sure I was OK.”

FNL had only 3.96 million live viewers on Friday
