The Latest SOD Cover

For those keeping track, Eric Braeden has not appeared on the cover of Soap Opera Digest in the past six issues. Blasphemy. After all my complaining, I miss the guy. Toss the man a bone, Ms. Leahey. I kid.

Perhaps Joshua Morrow will become the Eric Braeden of 2009?

In the past 19 issues, here are SOD's favorite cover stars and the number of (some part of the) covers they've graced:
1) Joshua Morrow (6)
2) Sharon Case (5)
3) Eric Braeden (4)
3) Michelle Stafford (4)
3) Jason Thompson (4)
6) Eileen Davidson (3)
6) Steve Burton (3)
6) Kimberly McCullough (3)
6) Thorsten Kaye (3)
6) Alicia Minshew (3)

And by show, the number of times each show has appeared on at least some part of the newsstand SOD cover in the past 19 issues:
1) THE YOUNG AND THE RESLTESS (13)
2) GENERAL HOSPITAL (9)
3) ALL MY CHILDREN (6)
4) DAYS OF OUR LIVES (4)
5) ONE LIFE TO LIVE (2)
5) GUIDING LIGHT (2)
7) THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL (1)
8) AS THE WORLD TURNS (0)

Keep in mind, none the last four shows, including critical darling of late ONE LIFE TO LIFE, have not been the "main" cover of SOD since B&B's Hunter Tyler graced the cover back in June. I did great a great Kim Zimmer subscriber cover two months ago which I had her autograph.

  1. LOL...Thanks for keeping track of the SOD covers. I think that Ms. Leahey stopped the Eric Braeden covers on purpose. Maybe she didn't realize how it looked until you pointed it out.

I wish OLTL got more covers.

  2. I think their internal data tells them that Y&R covers sell and probably especially certain actors like Braeden. I understand it from a business perspective if they are desperate to meet a bottom line and feel that is the only way to do it.

It's just that from a fan's perspective, especially of soaps like ATWT, GL, B&B and OLTL it would be nice to get SOD covers as well.

Inside the magazine things are pretty evenly split but since it's on newsstands it's a good advertising tool for the show that's featured. In my mind, having the same actors on the cover all the time sort of makes it look like the cover never changes, which might lead one to think the content inside doesn't change.

At least as a subscriber I do get the occasional cover for some of the other shows.
