News Round-up

SAG Answers AMPTP's Trade Ad Monday
The Screen Actors Guild released the following statement in response to AMPTP's trades ad Monday.

"“There they go again. The AMPTP’s ad is great fiction, with convoluted bullet points and confused messages -- and, it’s completely wrong. Here’s the truth."

MICHAEL FAIRMAN: Lunching with the Spauldings
"I have to say, I thorougly enjoyed talking to Marcy Rylan. What a smart, funny and charming young woman, and Grant Alexsander? Well, what can I say? He's 'the man'! His return has been all the buzz in magazines and online sites over the past few weeks, so I felt fortunate to speak with him in person about what brought him back to Springfield at this juncture. Many have speculated that it's GL's last ditch effort to save the show, and to boost its ratings, which makes some modicum of sense."

"Only Love" Brings Heart to Springfield
Kati Mac on how her song became GUIDING LIGHT's new theme: "I sent them some of my music, and it was one of those cases where my song went across the right desk at the right time. I believe Ellen's [Wheeler, executive producer] children liked the song, so I think that's how it happened."

Most TVs now high-definition but a lot of content isn't
The HD holes show up not just in the overall numbers, but in individual shows and stations. Few of the network soap operas are broadcast in high-definition, for instance, so don't expect DAYS OF OUR LIVES to look great on your new TV.

Two new kids for CORONATION STREET
CORONATION STREET producers have cast two young and aspiring actors as Sophie Webster's school friends. Manchester-born Lucien Laviscount, 15, and Wigan-based Sacha Parkinson, 16 will play the roles of Ben and Sian respectively, both schoolmates of Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent). The character of Ben is the captain of the school swimming team, who soon takes a shine to the youngest Webster child, while Sian is one of Sophie's best friends.

Celebrity tech endorsements: battle of the brands
Product placement on British TV is currently outlawed, but if the ban were lifted, it would pave the way for a new kind of celebrity endorsement: where television producers are able to put an iPhone in EASTENDERS’ Phil Mitchell’s hands. For the brand owners, there is the prospect of combining product placement with celebrity endorsement.

Alicia Minshew out of Soap Cruise in January
"Due to my grueling schedule at AMC, I will not be able to do the Soap Cruise in January. I would like to apologize to the fans who were going in hopes to see me. But since I had so much time off for my wedding and honeymoon,AMC needs me to work at the studio to catch up on the scenes and storyline. I am sorry and am sure everyone will still have an amazing time!!"
