Mistletoe-gate: One Year Later

A lot can happen in the course of a year. Last year at Christmas time, fans of AS THE WORLD TURNS' Luke and Noah were ecstatic by one of the most romantic soap episodes in years with the young couple declaring their love for each other, only to have it marred when the camera panned up to the mistletoe above their heads when the two went in for a kiss. What was up with that?

By February, a kissing ban was evident by all and fans took their complaints to the media. In late April the couple was kissing again and all seemed right with the world. There have been several places in the story since then where any other soap couple would have had sex so is there some sex ban happening now? Possibly, but I'll save my thoughts on that for another time.

Today is a day of celebration because not only did Luke and Noah kiss, viewers actually got to see it. And it was under the mistletoe again. Noah gave Luke a gift in Old Town. It was a watch, because lately they have both needed time. The inscription said "Worth the wait." After, they were sitting on a bench under the mistletoe and remembered last year and how romantic it was. Then they kissed. Later, at Lily's house, they kissed again.

The show obviously wanted to right the wrong from a year ago and give a nod to fans. So kudos to ATWT for getting this one right.

  1. I am personally delighted that this happened.

Roger, as a loud and prominent activist voice, you were one of the people most instrumental for making this happen. Throughout out it all, you have been clear in your support of Van, Jake, Luke, Noah, and ATWT. Therefore, everyone knew that your comments were coming from a place of love and suspport. THAT is how you make a difference.

Moreover, this difference benefits us all. Because, you know what...this won't be a big deal. It won't even get any press. And THAT is how it is supposed to be!

Thank you, ATWT, for fighting through the formidable barriers it took to get here.

  2. I'm liking the direction Luke and Noah's relationship is heading again (getting back together), but dreaded seeing "Maddie" today. Seeing "Jade" was just as bad. Why bring these characters back? I didn't want to see them anyway and I sure as hell don't want to see them with recast actresses!

  3. I agree about the recasts. I really want to like both actresses in the roles, but it has been rather jarring so far, especially Monday with Maddie. I'm not sure if it was the writing or the direction or the actress, but Alex Chando had a spark that was really missing today from the Maddie scenes with everyone. I was also confused by Maddie seeming closer to Noah than Luke who was her BFF for months before she left.
