Happy Anniversary, Marlena De Lacroix

Connie Passalacqua Hayman has written about soaps since the early 1980s. She is probably best known to soap fans for her wonderful columns in Soap Opera Weekly called "Critical Condition" using the name Marlena De Lacroix. I remember when I was in college reading the magazine at newsstands and flipping to her columns before reading anything else just to see what she had to say.

I loved soaps and had some family and friends that did, but there was no online criticism at that point and finding intelligent writing about soaps was not always easy. When she left Weekly in 2001, there was a huge void that has never been filled.

"Marlena" reappeared in 2006 with an online column, "Savoring Soaps," on the Jack Myers MediaVillage web site.

One year ago she launched a brand new site for thinking fans at MarlenaDeLacroix.com. Since then she has written numerous columns on the world of soaps today and offered great insights when some daytime legends passed.

Through the marvelous world of the internet, I have had the opportunity to get to know her and I am truly grateful.

Happy Anniversary, Marlena!
