Back in early September, AS THE WORLD TURNS Executive Producer told Soap Opera Digest: "Helen Wagner's [Nancy] 90th birthday is coming up, so we are coming up with a special show to celebrate her. It's essentially a prequel, what happened before anything ever happened on the air. So our characters are playing characters of yore. For instance, Carly playing Lisa, and you'll let your imagination go from there."
Wagner's birthday was September 3rd so this interview was conducted before that, most likely at least four months ago. What happened? It sounded like an excellent idea to me because it honored the legendary Wagner and also potentially could create some new history for the show. If done right, it didn't even have to be a standalone special. There could be a new Hughes character or characters introduced from the story. It would sure beat recasting everyone in town.
So why have we not seeing this special episode? I asked Telenext Media and they told me: "The episode isn't scheduled at this time."
Please schedule it!
Maybe they're saving it for April 2, ATWT's 53rd anniversary?
ReplyDeleteI hope you're right. With so many legends passing away this year and Helen only appearing on ATWT once in many months, I always worry about her health. I hope that has nothing to do with it. It could potentially be a great episode and I'm looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteI also thought that with so many cast changes lately it would be hard to figure out who was playing who.
