News Brief

GH's Nancy Lee Grahn reacts to election results
"I had an election/birthday party (one of my best friend's bday today) at my house tonight. We ate good food and drank good wine and watched as history was made tonight. It feels so good and I'm elated as I know many of you are.

I just want to thank everyone who volunteered their time and their effort to this election--no matter which candidate you may have supported.

Thank you for traveling this road with me and participating in this process. Yes We Can!! Yes We Did!!!

We have many more great things to accomplish, and I look forward to working with all of you again. I'll talk to you soon!"

More celebrity reaction
Former ALL MY CHILDREN guest star Oprah Winfrey: "This has been the greatest experience of my lifetime. I haven't seen a sense of unity like this since 9/11. Now, we're all brought together in the name of hope."

Former ANOTHER WORLD actress Lindsay Lohan: "YES WE CAN."

Y&R's Braeden was an election "pundit" on German radio yesterday
"German network ARD introduces its political pundits -- including, bizarrely, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS star Eric Braeden and Oscar-winning director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck."

TOM CASIELLO: Waking from One Nightmare, Heading into Another
"It makes me wonder - whether you're an Obama-fan or not, you can't deny for a second he isn't a great inspirational speaker, who moves his audience to be better people. How he is as a president remains to be seen, but he makes everybody sit up and face their day stronger... more determined... better. Where is Daytime's Obama? Where is that Executive Producer or Head Writer, or hell, even the Network Executive... who is going to stand tall, and talk to the fans like they're not a bunch of morons, and be honest and upfront and look the people they represent in the eye... the leader who is going to make us turn on the soap we grew up with, and believe again."

PATRICK ERWIN: Dreaming of Ross Marler
"As daytime continues its freefall from the sky (with the news today that the networks may discontinue airing the Daytime Emmys), I really wish we had someone - like Ross Marler, maybe? - who could make things right and encourage the industry to stick around, rather than rabidly tear itself apart."

No soap interruptions on election day
In most instances, the news divisions of U.S. channels get busy on the day of a presidential election—but networks still keep their priorities straight: Not one of the major networks has altered its regular daytime lineup of soap operas, game shows and gabfest for election coverage.

Soap Shrink: From Savvy to Reckless, How GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Alexis Davis’ Behavior Makes Perfect Sense
Damon L. Jacobs writes: "Treatment with Alexis would involve helping her to talk in detail about the overwhelming violence she watched as a child, and the tragedies she has experienced as an adult. Certainly getting shot at, coping with cancer, and losing her sister Kristina to another violent crime have only contributed to her sense of helplessness. She would need to gain insight into why criminals are so stimulating for her, and honestly look at the consequences of her choices. It is important that she recognize the connection between tragedy and love, and work to change that relationship in her own mind. I’m afraid if she doesn’t do that soon, it may have dire consequence for herself and her daughters."

8. There's even life still in the daytime soap. The threat of a tornado decimating Pine Valley scared up ALL MY CHILDREN's biggest weekly audience (2.7 million) in eight months, ABC said.

Susan Lucci continues “Soap” streak
One streak ended when Susan Lucci finally won an Emmy for ALL MY CHILDREN. She had received 19 nominations prior to taking home TV’s top prize in 1999.

But Lucci is keeping another streak alive. She has confirmed that she will be at the “ABC-SOAPnet Super Soap Weekend” Nov. 15 and 16 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Fla. Lucci is the only ABC daytime star to attend the event every year since it began in 1996.

Remembering Eileen Herlie
ALL MY CHILDREN will dedicate the Dec. 19 episode to Eileen Herlie (and Pine Valley's Myrtle Fargate), who passed away on Oct. 8 at the age of 90. The episode will include flashbacks of Myrtle's 32 years on the ABC soap.

HOLLYOAKS bad boy Richardson says he's good at heart
HOLLYOAKS star Kieron Richardson says he's the complete opposite, but he loves playing bad boy Ste Hay. The 22-year-old actor insists he enjoys the chance to embrace his nasty side on the Channel 4 show. "It's just nice to say some challenging things to people on set, to other actors that I would never say to my friends in real life. I get to say some really nasty things, which isn't good, but I would never say that and it makes me feel good to get it out there and say it to somebody."
