News Brief

INTERVIEW: Y&R's Elizabeth Hendrickson
"Viewers will begin to learn a little bit more about Chloe and her life prior to coming to Genoa City over the coming months…….you might just be surprised who she has ties to in this town. I honestly do not know what Bell and Sheffer have in store for me or the character. But just think how interesting the conversation would be around the dinner table at the Chancellor estate, if Billy was indeed the father of Chloe’s baby and she passed the child off as Cane’s."

Capshaw joining GREY's ANATOMY cast
On the heels of the arrival of a new head of trauma comes word that another fresh face will soon be scrubbing in at Seattle Grace. Jessica Capshaw (THE L WORD, THE PRACTICE) will play Dr. Arizona Robbins, a pediatrician who’s called in to consult on a case and winds up butting heads with Bailey. Capshaw has signed on for at least three episodes, though that could lead to more, and that she will make her first appearance midway through the season.

EVENT: DogCatemy Celebrity Gala
North Shore Animal League America will roll out the Red Carpet for celebrities and their pets at their upcoming, star-studded event, the third annual DogCatemy Celebrity Gala on November 6th at Capitale, NYC. As is typical for a fundraiser, the animal charity, the world's largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption agency, is staging a silent auction. But this time, they've put it on the internet, posting an array of glamorous and unique items.

The DogCatemy Celebrity Gala attracts over 350 guests who gather to watch videos made by celebrities of their pets, vying for Crystal Collar Awards. The categories include Best Pawformance, Best Tail Waggin' Comedy, Best Musical, Best Reel Life Tail, Best Dogumentary and Best in Show. Among the celebrity video makers and attendees will be North Shore Animal League America spokesperson and Gala Honorary Chairperson Beth Stern, Oscar winning actress Marcia Gay Harden, talk show host and lifestyle expert Martha Stewart, comedian Sarah Silverman, celebrity chef Katie Lee Joel, news anchor Brian Williams, and ONE LIFE TO LIVE actresses Robin Strasser, Bree Williams, Justis Bolding and Melissa Archer, and CBS News correspondent Dr. Debbye Turner.

Emily O'Brien gets animated

For the past year, Emily O'Brien, who plays Jana Hawkes on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, has been quietly working with Image Metrics, a company that produces animation for video games and Hollywood films. The result is the "Emily O'Brien Project," which can be seen on YouTube for those with Internet access -- and the resemblance between O'Brien and her animated self has to be seen to be believed!

"They sat me in a space with polarized lights that would shoot different rays of light, and they would take pictures while I sat in a chair," she explains. "They filmed me and then moved that over to the computer, and they were able to move my face anyway they wanted to. It looks exactly like me. (The process) picks up every subtle nuance."

While O'Brien's Image Metrics animated character is identical to her, O'Brien reveals that she and her Y&R character couldn't be more dissimilar.

"I think it is so beautiful to see the transition from Jana's pre-brain tumor to post-tumor self and how appreciative she is of her life and friends, but we're totally different, so I don't relate to her too much," O'Brien explains. "She is more like my parents with the whole tantric yoga meditation interest that she has. I am different."

EASTENDERS' Simons hails Janus influence
Rita Simons has hailed Samantha Janus as a factor in her success on EASTENDERS. The actress, who plays Roxy Slater in the BBC soap, thanked her co-star after winning the Best Newcomer prize at this year's National Television Awards.

"In all honesty, I would not have won the award if it wasn't for Sam. She has got a lot more experience than I have and taught me so much," she told the Daily Star.

"We have become incredibly close over the last year and I owe her a big thank you."
