News Brief

INTERVIEW: ATWT's Nell Mooney’s turn to shine
“Spencer McKay is a woman with a lot of secrets, all of which I actually haven’t even learned yet. They don’t tell you anything week to week as you’re acting it.”

So, is there any truth to the rumors that she might somehow come between Brad and Katie?

“It’s a bit of an onion there, layers upon layers. But you and I may have to find out together, because I actually don’t know the end result of what happens with my character. But she’s going to cause a stir, that much is for sure. I’m a little bit of a troublemaker.”

Jeanette Heller, 97: Was Radio City Rockette
Jeanette Heller, who grew up in Paris, Ont., with dreams of being a dancer, high-kicked her way into becoming the oldest living Radio City Rockette.

Heller died last Thursday at age 97 at Toronto's St. Michael's Hospital.

She stopped dancing in the late 1950s, remained in New York City, and began a second career in wardrobe and show production. Her resume includes the American Ballet Theatre, fashion shows at the Waldorf-Astoria, and Broadway shows such as "Guys and Dolls" and "The King and I." She eventually got into TV as well, working on soap operas such as ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE, as well as THE DICK CAVETT SHOW and THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW. She was even involved in the production of SESAME STREET.

Emmy-nominated director Grean dies
Hoffman Grean, a New York television director, died at her home in Weston, Conn., on Saturday. The Mobile native, who garnered eight Daytime Emmy Award nominations, was 70.

"Being a television director," said Gurnee, "is like being a fighter pilot: You have so little time to get so much done. Sherrell was always the calm center of things, and had strength. She had a sense of humor, too, to get through days of tension and complexity."

Grean climbed the career ladder to the top rung when she became director of the daytime drama ALL MY CHILDREN. "A very big deal," said Gurnee.

Using her maiden name professionally, Sherrell Hoffman, Grean was nominated eight times between 1980 and 1987 for "outstanding direction for a drama series," for ALL MY CHILDREN, and in 1991 for GUIDING LIGHT.
