News Brief

HINSEY: B&B's Eric in for a rude awakening
Eric finally wakes up from his coma next week on THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL.

"The good news is he opens his eyes," says John McCook, who plays Eric. "The bad news is that the first person he sees is his ex-wife."

Stephanie is there because "she and the kids steal Eric from the hospital and take him home without anybody knowing it," says McCook. "They send Donna off to the Paris showings and encourage her to take someone with her: 'Oh, I know! Why don't you take Owen?' That facilitates taking Eric home and staking their claim to him."

Initially, Eric's condition worsens.

"Right before he wakes up, they are under the impression he is dying," says McCook. "They call in a specialist who says it's pretty much over. Some specialist! Stephanie says to the children, 'I want you all to forgive him for anything he may have done to make you feel bad.'"

One by one, the kids say goodbye (cue the waterworks), then Stephanie washes Eric's feet - and prays.

"The scenes are very rich in the New Testament," says McCook. "All of a sudden, Eric moves his foot and reaches out to them. It's wonderful."

Soap Shrink: Is OLTL’s Blair Cramer a Tramp or an Icon of Female Empowerment?
Damon L. Jacobs blogs: :You’ve got to hand it to Blair Cramer. She may have grown up in foster homes, she may have a nasty temper, she may soon be one of they youngest grandmothers on daytime. But she has more than proven her capacity to be resourceful, resilient, and to have a seriously good head for business. Unfortunately, most would say that’s not the part of the body she’s usually thinking with."

Eva Longoria notices a price sticker on her shoes during a segment of THE LATE LATE SHOW WITH CRAIG FERGUSON
The DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES star removed them immediately though, as the audience was shocked to learn they cost a hefty $695. But the mishap will surely not effect think-skinned Eva, who revealed she had a tough time breaking into Hollywood.

She said: "When I went to LA I knew nobody. I had no money, no car and no job. I just literally went with a suitcase and I was not one bit scared. I felt someone was watching over me. I really think it was God saying: 'This is your path. This is where you have to be.'"

GL's Dicopoulos emcees FAAN event
Organizers of worthy causes sometimes enlist celebrities who have no connection to a particular cause. This won't be the case when actor Frank Dicopoulos emcees the FAAN (Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network) Walk for Food Allergy on Sunday in Long Branch. The longtime star of GUIDING LIGHT has suffered from food allergies, as has members of his family.

Dicopoulos, of Monmouth Beach, says he discovered he is sensitive to the iodine content of shellfish the hard way — during one of this first dates with his wife, actress Teja Anderson. At a restaurant, Dicopoulos ordered a shrimp dish.

"My throat closed up," he recalled. "I had to run home. Thank God, my apartment was close to the restaurant in New York."

James Sutton promises emotional exit from HOLLYOAKS
"Craig quickly decides that he wants to go back to Dublin and he offers John Paul the choice to go back with him. Craig gives John Paul a one way ticket to Dublin - he slips it into his pocket. It's very emotional and the two characters have a real history together. They had a quite long, turbulent relationship before so it's quite emotional. It's an ending that's very true to the storyline. I think it's an ending that needs to happen."

Survey: Online viewership of TV shows doubles
According to a recent survey, online viewership of television broadcasts has almost doubled since 2006 to nearly 20% of Internet families. Of those, report the Conference Board and TNS Global, 72% watch programs online for entertainment purposes on a daily basis.

Users cited portability, time flexibility and the ability to evade commercials as the main reasons for the eyeball migration, and listed news, drama, sitcoms/comedy, reality shows and sports as their five favorite programming categories.

The most popular destinations for TV on the PC are the channel/network's homepage and, natch, YouTube. Apple's iTunes and Fox/NBC's Hulu also got a shout-out. The survey, conducted during the third quarter, canvassed 10,000 U.S. households.
