News Brief

PATRICK ERWIN: Y&R's Surprising Mother and Child Reunion
"By the time you read this, Young and the Restless will have just revealed a major plot point — that fashionista Chloe, Lily’s adversary, is actually Kate, Esther’s daughter!

There are many times where I have written about soaps and have had to be grumpy about what’s happening on screen, or be the bearer of bad tidings. So I’m really happy to ring the bells about this revelation and RAVE about it. I think this is the most clever and compelling twist I’ve seen on Y&R in ages! There are a few things they really got right with this one."

TOM CASIELLO: You’ll Never Work in this Town Again!
"I have received numerous e-mails from my colleagues since I started this blog, congratulating me on having the guts to come forward and say the things they've wanted to say for years. I have yet to hear any negative feedback from anyone that this blog threatens my future employment (although I'm not stupid - I don't think for a second it's actually helping my job situation) - either from network friends, or from agents, or from anybody else."

ABC's 2009 Hot Guys Of Daytime wall calendar is out
Featured this year are Maurice Benard, Kamar De Los Reyes, Cameron Mathison, Bradford Anderson, Steve Burton, Thorsten Kaye, Jason Thompson, John Brotherton, Greg Vaughan, Trevor St. John, Aiden Turner and Brandon Barash.

AMC's Melissa Claire Egan mentioned on ESPN.com
I wasn't expecting to see a soap name in a college football column but here it is:

"Before the game, two parachutists who were supposed to land in [University of North Carolina's] Kenan Stadium with the game ball instead erroneously touched down in Wallace Wade Stadium at nearby Duke. Which is completely emblematic of the entire lost weekend in the ACC (Roy Williams is a Hall of Famer!).

Clearly, if the parachuting pinheads knew that Dashette Melissa Claire Egan (26) was a Carolina grad, they would have found the right stadium in deference to her."

New Jersey at the heart of Fumero's indie film
Filmmaker Gabrielle Berberich has drawn upon many of her own experiences and captured the allure of the shore in her new film, Greetings From the Shore, due to hit theaters Sept. 12.

Greetings From the Shore follows Jenny (Kim Shaw) during her final summer at Lavallette before she heads to college, hopefully at Columbia. Fortunately, Jenny is not alone; an old friend of her father's, Catch (Paul Sorvino), becomes an adopted guardian, and the enigmatic and kind, if undocumented, Benicio (ONE LIFE TO LIVE's David Fumero) steals her heart.

HOLLYOAKS hunk's soap on a grope
HOLLYOAKS hunk Jamie Lomas got more than he bargained for as judge of a lapdancing contest in Bradford.

Everything old is new again this fall
Variety takes a look back at the TV season for '93-'94. "Sifting through the programs themselves, it's equally remarkable how in various respects the more some things change, the more others stay the same."

SCRIPTS & SCRUPLES: Episode #854
A new season kicks off as Mack gives Blake bad news, Perry denies anything is wrong and Zack and Zoey share a tender moment..
