News Brief

CAROLYN HINSEY: OLTL sets the wayback machine
From Friday's New York Daily News: Gigi is transported back to 1968 Friday on ONE LIFE TO LIVE, leading to a reunion with Rex next week.

Too bad she finds him in bed with another woman.

"Rex is stuck in 1968 and he's being shipped off to Vietnam," says John-Paul Lavoisier of his character's wacky time-travel story line. "He's not going to get back to Gigi. So he's talking to Emma, saying, 'You look just like this girl. It's almost like you are her.' And Emma goes, 'You can pretend I am her tonight.'"

Meanwhile, Gigi is trying to figure out how to get back to 1968 to find him.

LYNN LICCARDO: Hinseygate follow up
"Deconstructing the gestalt of the Hinsey blowback has exposed a lot of questions about soap opera, soap opera journalism, and how the two are inextricably linked. Among the questions: Can a soap opera journalist be an advocate for soaps; can a soap journalist be a fan; what kind(s) of journalism so soap fans really want; what kind(s) do they need; can soap's print media survive with the growth of the Internet; how do the Internet soap media become economically viable (this is a question all media have been struggling with). It's a list that will keep me writing for weeks, if not months."

One of the preliminary shows being considered is KARMA TV, a bilingual soap opera with an African-American and Latino cast.

RECAP: Michael Fairman on "The Frank DeCaro Show" on Sirius
Fairman: "For those who missed the segment, I discussed Higley-gate and Hinsey-gate, and Doria and Frank the co-hosts were aghast that there were over 1700 postings on Jossip.com, about dearly-departed Carolyn. We spoke of the stunning blog posting image from 'The Wizard Of OZ,' where the house had fallen on the witch and all you see are the red shoes!"
