ATWT: Luke and Noah Finally Kiss Again

After nearly seven months of no kissing (and a kissing ban apparently dictacted by producers Procter & Gamble), AS THE WORLD TURNS couple Luke and Noah finally kissed on today's episode. There was no fanfare or previews, just a hot, wet kiss that was long overdue.

Back in late February, Noah and Luke fans started a Media Blitz (lead by Anthony G. from VanHansis.net) in support of the couple that lead to newspaper articles being published in just about every major newspaper in the country and many around the world. Noah and Luke were featured in TIME Magazine, USA Today, Entertainment Weekly, CNN, NPR, Fox News and many other outlets. I was personally interviewed some of this coverage and I felt it was important to speak out about how Luke and Noah were not being allowed to kiss even though the story dictated they do (or they kissed offscreen when no other soap couple would). Yes, they are fictional characters, but banning the gay couple in love from kissing while allowing the heterosexual characters not even in a relationship to kiss, was sending a horrible message to viewers that there was something wrong about the gay characters or that is was alright to treat gays differently.

Now, in the first scenes taped since the blitz, Luke and Noah first had a sexy, shirtless scene on Noah's bed last week followed by today's unexpected kiss. Did the Media Blitz work? Absolutely. AS THE WORLD TURNS has finally given the fans what they want and stopped their blatant discrimination. The Luke and Noah storyline could use some work, most especially the all over the place mess that is the character of Ameera, but for today, fans celebrate.
